What is a good value high power impact wrench that requires a low CFM output from the compressor? The best one I have found is the Bluepoint AT555B. 550 lbs torque with only 2.2 CFM consumption. I can find them used for less than $100! New off the truck they are $285. I am hoping to spend as little as possible since I dont make big money. I am just a tire guy!

Husky H4480 uses 4.4 cfm and at 109 bucks new, I don't think you could get a stronger new gun for the money 800 ft. lbs. I think that's made by PTP as it's the same as the Sunex Sx4345 and the older Mac AWQP120 as well. Don't know how many you'll find with less cfm than that, I never pay attention to that number on any of them as my compressor is 15.3 at 90 psi. Also, the Klutch 1/2" at Northern Tool is $99.99 too.

@4 CFM you won't keep up to any 1/2" air gun continuous, probably not a 3/8" either. But as long as you get a quality gun that hits the lug nuts off fast it will easily keep up enough that you aren't waiting on the compressor the whole time. The cheap guns take a lot more air and you will be waiting every wheel for the compressor to recharge unless it has 30g or larger tank. Find an IR, CP, or whichever other quality brand you can find and call it a day.

For instance my ole webster ~10g tank and the pump puts out ~4.5 cfm, I have the IR edge series gun(homeowner grade) and I can blast off the 4 wheels on my 4runner(torqued around 90 ft/lbs) without having to wait. Before this I tried a cheaper 3/8 gun and would have to wait after 2 lug nuts.

My current compressor is only rated for 4.0 CFM. :(

How big is your tank? If you have a good sized tank, and decent air plumbing, 4.0 cfm will be fine for intermittent use. If it's a small tank, or there will be long duration continuous tool operation, then compressor output becomes much more relevant.

The tank size matters more than the CFM in this case. You're not going to run the impact continuously, but the actual air consumption is much higher than what's listed on the product specification. Remember, the gun needs 90psi at the inlet while holding down the trigger. If you have a small tank, your pressure will drop quite rapidly.

Buy the right impact wrench.

I only had a small hot dog compressor 2+ cfm when I got my impact wrench. I tee'd an extra ir tank inline and I had lots of air. Air tanks are always around used.l

It is just a 10 gallon tank. I plan on getting a bigger one as soon as I can afford one.

Then I'd buy the gun you want, it'll take tires off, you might have to wait between tires for a minute, but strong guns will take the lugs off so fast....

Just go cordless. My Milwaukee can do class 8 truck lug nuts without breaking a sweat. I hate snagging air hoses around obstacles.

Do like rancherbill says. Tee in an extra tank and you will be fine. Sometime you can find a 10-20 gallon compressor with a dead motor/pump on CL, cheap. Perfect for you.

That Chicago Pneumatic on Amazon looks like a good deal to me ! Yeah, it is made in Japan, but that is SO MUCH BETTER than made in China !

I have this impact gun and it's a beast for the size and price. It's also relatively small.

Really impressed with it, you would think it was a really high end gun after using it, not something for $100 at Home Depot.

I find myself turning the power down to the middle level on just about everything including lug nuts.
