Well my 30 year old chicago pneumatic bit the dust yesterday.After 2 rebuilds and some gaskets replacements anvil is gone and just not worth messin with.I .Only requirment i have is 1\"2 drive.Used this impact for 30 years doing small engine and marine engine repairs.Now just want your opinions,going to get another want a 1/2 in and only will use it few times a month,so going with something of flea bay or here if i see one.Looked at reviews about craftsman ,colbalt ,seem to be junk from what i read.Lookin at used snap on or another cp brand also used .Dont want a $200. job as i dont need one that good anymore.What do yall suggest?

IR231. I have this gun, its not that expensive and its plenty strong for everything Ive thrown at it. Im not a professional, just a guy that works on my buddies cars.

Another vote for IR231. It's served me well as good all around impact wrench.

The IR231C is the one you want to look for instead of the 231.I was going to rebuild someone's IR231,found out the price of parts from my Matco tool dealer yesterday.It was $150.00 in parts and it was better off buying a new impact.The anvil for the 231 is obsolete and have to buy an updated hammering mechanism.IR2135 is another choice,lighter than the IR231C.

You don't need some overkill monster impact gun, and these can be had for like 115. Durable as hell. Don't get the 231G, which is a cheaper one sold at big box stores. Order a 231C online and never worry about it.

I agree with the ignersoll rand. Probably a lot lighter than your old gun too. We use these daily at our shop and never have any issues

I don't have nor have I ever used one but the Earthquake series from Harbor Freight gets rave reviews on here. Do a search and see what others are saying about them.

231C

Is the 231G not good quality or just weak? I thought about getting that gun/ratchet combo for the house.

ive been using ir 231 & 231C for many years working on heavy eq.

last one i got from summit racing, delivered, showed up the day after it shipped for $138

For the price, you can't beat the compact 1/2 drive Klutch impact from Northern Tool for $89.

I got it a couple of months ago on sale for $69 and use it daily.

No problems and it has a lot of balls for the size///

Is the 231C made in the good ol USA?

neither of my 231C guns were.

oldest 231 i bought in '87 or so was usa made
the 231c i bought in '94, the anvil finally snapped off back in nov.
broke the anvil off my spare.

decided to "treat" myself to a new one a couple months ago.

I'm happy with my CP7733.

Better numbers than the 231C or 231HA at the same or less money using ToolTopia as a reference.

That is where I bought mine.

The cp734 is nice if you dont need the best of the best in power. Never need to buy another one again!

There is only one drawback of the IR231,heavy.The 231,the anvil is not available anymore and have to buy an updated hammering mechanism.I just went through this yesterday.I was handed one to rebuild,$150.00 in parts and it was better to buy a new impact.
