Chromes have slightly more flex than impacts and are used by hand ( supposed to anyway)

Impacts are meant to be used with Impact wrench and can handle beating from impact hammer those are the pinless design (slightly less flex but more or a fluid motion without the bind you with get from the chrome)

Don't know if it's true of the swivels, but impact sockets are softer than standard sockets so they don't shatter.

As usual you guys provide a lot of good information.

I am curious which set do you guys think I should get.
I have a 1/4 Air Cat wrench and a 1/2 impact gun.
But no 3/8 Impact
I plan on getting a 3/8 impact wrench or gun.

I've got a 3/8" air ratchet, but not an impact gun. I've never seen a need for an impact gun that small. I could always put a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter on one of several 1/2" impact guns I have (assuming that the socket only fit on a 3/8" drive).

2 different tools with different uses.

i rarely use a chrome swivel, and if i do it's in 1/4" dr.

my most used impact swivels are 3/8" dr

Same here. Almost exclusivley use my impact swivels. I have a few spots where I need to use the chrome swivels but otherwise I always grab for the impacts, even if I not going to use a pneumatic impact.

3/8 is good for getting into tighter spots than the 1/2 will go, and applying more torque than an air ratchet will

My 3/8 is my most used impact. Saves me a lot of time and frustration with the selection of swivel sockets and extensions I have for it.

i work on const eq...

the only times i really have to use a chrome swivel, it's the only thing that will fit where it needs to go. most of the time it's 1/4" dr.

3/8" dr impact swivels are my "go to". along with a cordless impact.

i rarely use a air impact in 3/8" dr anymore.

Once you get a good 3/8 impact, it will be your go-to from then on.

When I was wrenching for a living, a 3/8" impact wrench was my most used tool, hands down. 90% or more of all disassembly was done with it. Sitting there with a ratchet going click-click-click-click, click-click-click-click, wasn't going to get it. That would get you get fired for being slow.

This x1000. How many tools do you own that you constantly use but when you first purchased you were unsure of when you would actually find it handy?

A 3/8ths is far easier to handle on a constant basis than a much heavier and bulkier 1/2

Same here, my 3/8" Snap-On IR31 impact gun or Snap-On FAR7B air ratchet are hands down my most grabbed for air tools. Only when the 3/8" wont budge it or I know I need more grunt will I grab the 1/2". Or on occassion the IR 3/4" gun, but that is quite rare.

3/8" impact comes in handy often, especially if you do a lot of brakes and you break caliper bracket bolts loose with an impact. I've almost never been able to fit a 1/2" impact in to get them, and swivel sockets are often a must.

Not only that, but with the power of today's 3/8" impacts, they can do a lot of work for something in a smaller and lighter package.

First, I am old and old school. I use ratchets more than anything else.
Now, you need both sets. The drive size is determined by what size work you do.
Then, use the proper socket for the application. The Chrome set is NOT designed for impact use!! When using them use a hand ratchet, or don't be upset if they don't last long.

I did new rotors and pads on my Silverado today, and I will say I had to put the 3/8 aside once. I was taking the caliper mounting brackets off which are Loctited from the factory, and my little 3/8 IR impact that will take just about anything off, wouldn't. I reached for the Snap On MG725, and it didn't even hammer. Just pull the trigger and BAM! Bolt's lying on the floor.

You and me both, and I should have used my impacts and air ratchets more than I did. For removing wheels, impact. Same for front end work. Everything else I reach for a ratchet, even when an air ratchet or impact would work.
