Impact Wrench - Craftsman vs IR

A thread awhile back mentioned that one of the Cman impact wrenches was a rebrand / copy of an Ingersoll-Rand model, and sure enough when looking at them side by side the outer construction is identical (different finish aside). The Craftsman one was made in China (no surprise there), while if I remember correctly the IR one was assembled in the USA with mixed components.

Although they have an identical design, I'm wondering if there is any internal differences - perhaps a slightly better motor gear in the IR.....since it's possible that even if the majority of components come from the same China factory, they could have sourced some better components before final USA assembly.

Anyone have any first hand experience with either?

My dad has the blue IR one, been a good gun for the last five or so year, use its around the garage mostly. I have a 2135Ti gun and love, had it about 10 years and been real good to me. The inside looks like new, I grease and oil it often.

I have this one (second one) http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00919905000P

I bought it several years ago and has served me fine at home. When I bought it, IR had one exactly like it, same specs but a few dollars more. I opted for the Cman one.

FWIW, the last set of IR die grinders I bought were made in China. I found that out after UPS delievered them and I opened the package.

I have that same Craftsman Impact .. if you look at the parts diagram in the manual, it is a IR 2131 ..
