Impact wrench / socket question

I just bought a new Ingersoll Rand 231C impact wrench to replace my $30 HF gutless wonder. Can't believe I put up with that for all these years. Also have a set of Sunex deep sockets coming from Tooltopia. Question is with the different retaining systems. My IR has no pin or ball, just a snap ring thingy on the drive. Some impact sockets have a groove cut at the base for some kind of retaining ring which I don't understand and some don't. Need someone to enlighten me please.

It will hold tight and be just fine. It is tougher to put a socket on an impact wrench than it is a ratchet though.

What is your question?

The snap ring is called a hog ring. Pretty common on impacts. It's the style I prefer.
