I tried out an impact driver for the first time. Its pretty cool... but is it mushing up thread/wood
contact by going so fast down?????
and do you find that torx bits can get banged up when you take out long screws ????
it seemed to be thrashing a bit when it gets a grip going up..but for putting in,man its quick..

never had a problem with torx heads getting chewed up by impacting, as long as an impact-rated bit is used. If the bit looks worn, replace. This is also assuming that the screw only sees a few tighten/loosen cycles. If you're taking the same screw and driving it then taking it out a hundred times, yeah the head will get worn and eventually strip.
