There is an eBay seller claiming that Knipex will be raising its prices in June. Can anyone confirm or refute this claim? If it's true, it might motivate me to do some purchasing now, before the increases!

I've heard the same, last year it was a flat 10% raise across the board. Its not as justified now, the dollar has regained some ground against the euro and mass inflation has not hit us YET....

I'm to lazy to follow exchange rates but that could be a cause for a price change. Materials prices should be down compared to a couple of years ago so that should not be a factor and I don't think anyone on earth got a raise in the last six months so labor costs should be near flat.

I would doubt anyone on ebay is buying straight from Knipex anyways. Its probably an increase from their supplier. It takes a bigger fish than joe ebay to buy direct.

Well, this is a good justification to buy some Knipex anyways :) What are the "must haves"? So far I want Cobras and plier wrenches, but I'm not sure what size(s) and handles. The comfort grips look nice, but not everyone here seems to like them. What do you all think? What other models are essential? I have most styles of pliers in my box now, but not Knipex-quality stuff...lots of Craftsman and a few Channellock and other brands.

The inflation is starting already. Prices are starting to creep up everywhere, and this is just the beginning, baby. You ain't never seen inflation like we're about to see! Hope you already bought everything you need, 'cause you won't be able to afford it by this time next year.

I have 5 pair of the regular handle cobras from 7" to 22" & the 7" is the most used pair I have followed by the 10". I also have the 7" & 10" plier wrenches but the only thing I've used them for yet was when I took the bathroom sink off replaced the faucet then rehung everything. My preference is the regular grips, the comfort grips look like they would tear a lot easier + be harder to clean without damaging them.

What?!!? Raise prices instead of moving production to China?

Those Germans sure have some nerve don't they? :bounce:

haha ! As long as the customers pay the prices production will be here, in the case of Knipex i don`t think they move the production, just talked on friday to the Knipex guy at a fair here, he said that the old senior boss Mr. Putsch said he rather take a canister of gasoline and burn the whole factory down before he import products or sell just rebranded stuff so the company can die in a blaze of glory...... :)

Yeah, not sure of the timing because there are a lot of factors at play, but we are going to see some crazy inflation at some time in the near(may be a couple years) future, I'm hoping for it to be like Germany in the late 19teens. I'll be able to buy up some city blocks for a bar of gold.

Look in their catalog! everyone has the cobra and plier wrench, but they have over 1000 other items! All are better than any similar competitors item.

Bolster and FNFS2000,

How did you learn about the huge worldwide inflation facing us in the next year or two? Do you work as financial analysts at major corporations? Did you come across internet business articles forecasting this crisis (please supply the web links)?

Thanks.

Not really world wide, its just going to destroy the US dollar. Turn your tv off, burn your newspaper and find some truth online. worldnetdaily.com is one good news site to start with.

Some good books,

Get on the insiders club from Robert Kyosaki, the Rich Dad Poor Dad author. Richdad.com

Great videos and info to be found on goldsilver.com Kyosaki's metals advisor.

I'm pretty excited for our dollar to die, I just hope they let it get real bad before they unlock the Amero currency that they have been minting for the last year.

Knipex did not have a price increase since July of 2008. There is a small increase in January of 2011. Common rolled and bar steel has gone up and down in price but specialty steel has gone up and stayed up. Plus there are less specialty mills so supply is short. Knipex does not sell to ebay type sellers.

Chad's has been warning for a couple months now that Knipex is having a price increase in January. I don't know how much higher they can go...

If you are really interested in understanding what's about to happen, I'd like to support FNFS2000 by supplying a link to a presentation by Niall Ferguson, who is an economic historian @ Harvard and also a contributing editor @ Fin Times of London. Also note that he didn't suggest worldwide inflation (but to some degree that will happen as almost all gov'ts are printing money like crazy). This presentation is about an hour, but is absolute spot on, and has audio, video and powerpoints for your choice:

Price increase of hand tools over here is usually about 3 to 5% each year due to increasing costs of wages and raw materials. During the crisis not every company increased the prices though. (and not every company charge more every year but every 2 years or so)

So if there is a price increase then only slightly, that what is necessary to continue to produce here in Germany.
