Many of you have probably wondered why your ratchets wear out prematurely. In the early days, I too did this wrong. Please ensure you always turn your ratchets off when not in use.

 I thought the direction lever dictated the direction in which the ratchet was turning. Isn't it why its called a directional lever?

So that's what that switch is for! Honestly, I've never understood the "On/Off" labelling. Seems it should be "Left/Right" or "CW/CCW".

Boy, do I feel stupid now? I thought that was to hold the socket "On" or release the socket "Off". :lol_hitti

That's why I like to use them old fashioned manual ratchets from SK - no fancy pants "on" or "off"; no dead ratchets in the morning needin' a jump start.

In my younger days doing a lot of waiter oil changes one after another, I was always a little worried when I'd grab my ratchet and it was in the loosen postion.

And don't forget to not put a 10' cheater pipe on the ratchet handle to get those nasty fasteners loosened. It seems to be something some people do and then they ***** when the ratchet breaks. lol. Use a breaker bar instead. They come in all sizes/lengths.

UMM, No. That was a Snap-On ratchet. They are indestructible. Made of pure Unobreakum. Now a lesser ratchet... well that's a different story.
