Ive been impressed with Knipex too. Never owned a pair until this sale... Now I own 4. Really hate this site sometimes. Nicest pliers I've ever used.

8'' side cutters comfort grip
8'' needle nose comfort grip
Combo pliers with dipped grip
1000v insulated needle nose

Total spent was 62.** after tax.

Plan on getting a 5 piece 1000v set too.

Probably could get by without the set but its hard to resist. Especially when you compare it to the **** Lowes is going to be stocking when they're gone.

How is $27 expensive for a pair pliers? Here in Canada we are paying $50 a pair, no sales ever, and on top of that 13% sale tax and that's not even terribly expensive for a professional tool.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

It's no wonder that Lowe's and Sears are clearing out all their good stuff, no one's willing to pay for them.

I have the mini-bolt cutters, and they're nice...really nice. That said $27 is expensive, and it will probably be the only Knipex I own because of the price and because I have most of what I want when it comes to pliers. I did buy the Craftsman version of the Knipex Cobra's, because those were in my ballpark of affordability. I like them too.

I'm fine paying more as long as I feel the quality is substantially better. I definitely feel that way about Knipex products. $15 or so more for Knipex vs Channellock product is a no-brainer for a tool that will probably outlive me.

Most of my pliers are Channellock and if I could do it all over again, I would have bought more Knipex.

The Knipex tools are certainly good quality, but I'm still a Channellock fan too.

Based on some suggestions here at the GJ, I stopped by my local Sears Hardware store today and found that they do stock a very limited offering of Knipex tools. There were probably 8 - 10 different pliers/cutters hanging on the hooks. Some were actually on sale. Okay, I'm in the store, they're on sale, so I'm practically obligated to buy something. Right? I ended up with a 10" pair of diagonal cutters, model #74 01 250. I definitely did not need them but the price was right...... $22.72 out the door. I really need to seek professional help about this tool buying thing! I'm totally out of control.

Yes Holt...... You're all "professional enablers." I didn't even tell you guys about the pair of Knipex electrician's pliers...... I mentioned them earlier in this thread, but just left out the fact that I BOUGHT THOSE TOO!! Yeah, I really needed those too. I'm sick....really sick.

Actually the Sears Hardware store I visited today had them in stock. Yes, the same Sears Hardware store where I bought the Knipex 10" diagonal cutters that I didn't need......

Weak.... no comfort grip. :p

Your collection is

For repetitive use comfort grip is nice. For mechanics use where space is at a premium I prefer the traditional grips. But if I had to hold the same pliera every day id want the comfort grip

I'm not sure what you mean by "go vertical" either. But it doesn't sound like you have been in Epstein's brick and mortar location. I think their 12-foot ceilings are the limits at the specific floor level, but there are three floors counting the basement. I have been in all three floors. I don't think they even know what all they have since they keep finding stuff they forgot about. I bought the last two NOS Thorsen ratchets they found from the 1990s. :)

Steve

Sorry to confuse, my mom and pop hardware store is a "skinny" version of Epsteins.

Aisles stacked to the 12' foot ceilings as well, but far from ADA complient with far too skinny aises.

Then go 4 floors up using the old skool freight elevator or archaic stairs.

It's a "stacked and packed" mini version of Epsteins really.

But they can get most anything in. It's no bargain, but not Grainger "hateful"... LOL

Yes Jeff, I can see why you'd say that. They're pretty nice cutters, and I can see them becoming my "go to" cutters for heavier gauge wire, etc. Over the last few years, I looked at those cutters almost every time I went into Lowes. I just couldn't get past the $50+ price tag. It was the last pair left and I couldn't pass them up since they were on sale.

As you've seen in this thread, you will notice that the Cobalt's are one of those unanimous gotta have it tools. I haven't really seen anyone post negative reviews on them.

Knipex stuff is as good or better than Snap-On, IMO. The Germans know how to make quality tools.

I like my shiny snap-on wrenchs and sockets, but honestly the only reason I went with them was due to ease of warranty with him stopping by and only living 5 minutes away, and I like shiny things sometimes, wrenchs and sockets are one of those times. Other times I hate it and love the euro raw metal dull look.

Yes and they're not shy about charging good money for them either. :D

No they are not, but you do get what you pay for. Something about Germans and engineering. They are such stubborn **** pricks that they really do a good job of making the highest quality, most innovative product. My family is German and this trait shows through, always right, never wrong, but they do actually listen to what you say and down the road when its their idea, its right.

We use a lot of German stuff now on our farm because its simply better. Fendt tractors come at a premium, but are the highest quality and most innovative (rare to be the innovator and high quality), Claas is another brand we use that is above and beyond. Germans are big into family owned companies, while Fendt is now owned by Agco (mostly to have a US dealer market), Claas is still family owned and ran by the original family. Both Fendt and Claas make a lot of components in house because they felt the products available were not good enough. I like German cars too.

Then theres tools, WIHA, Metabo, Bosch, Flex, Festool, Wera, NWS, Knipex, Witte, Felo, Hazet, Stahlwille etc. etc. Nothing but quality that sells itself.

Looks like Sears might be the way to go for in store, on the shelves, hold it in my hands now, Knipex tools. I'm not really looking for anything in particular, but was just wondering where else Knipex tools were sold on site, versus ordering them online, etc.

Jim C.

Sears usually stocks the 10" plierswrench. Its normally around $40 or so. If you do any sort of plumbing and such, they are a lifesaver. I have all of the sizes and wish their were even more sizes. I use them every day on hydraulic lines. If any other company made them they would be nothing more than a gimmick tool you get for christmas from your kids, but Knipex really pulled it off, they really bite hard and the ratcheting is awesome.

Most of my pliers are Channellock and if I could do it all over again, I would have bought more Knipex.

I started with channellock tongue groove pliers, they looked brand new when I replaced them with Knipex Cobras because I avoided using them. I had always thought of them as a pain to us and not for precision use. Once I got the Cobra's I looked for oppurtunities to use them.

No better pliers out there for doing simple wiring in your house. Its a small simple pliers. Cuts, strips and the needle nose is handy as well, but thats it nothing else.

Wow! Thanks for the updated pictures. That's really a great collection of Knipex tools! You have a heavy concentration snap ring pliers. With so many sizes, you must encounter snap rings frequently. Where do you order your Knipex tools from? Thanks again for the new pictures.

Honestly all it takes is one snap ring to ruin your day I work on farm equipment semis cars trucks construction equipment etc so yes I run into a large variety of sizes.

The reason I spent the extra money for these was due to them being forged and designed for one purpose. The multi size snap ring pliers always made me angry. These ones are fast and do a good job.

Theres still the big 22" pairs I could get haha. Or the $2,500 one that will do up to 4' rings IIRC.

I get mine from chadstoolbox.

By now most of the area lowes store in central, ohio are clearing out their last remaining stock of knipex tools; shame because from what I am reading on the GJ they want to replace it with Chinese stock.

I've been on a Channellock buying binge lately, but I still also hold Knipex tools in high regard. Anyway, I went to Menard's yesterday looking for a pair of Channellock #447 cutters. Unfortunately, Menard's didn't have them, but they did have these Knipex combination pliers!! No, I didn't need them, but I bought them anyway. My Knipex collection isn't growing as fast as my Channellock collection, but it is growing none the less.

old tread - but my first knipex purcahse were the 10" alligator pliers i found in sears by accident of all things.. was so imppressed, i ordered the lineman pliers, and 10" diagonals from amazon.. decided i didnt care for the longer cutters, so ordered the 8", and then splurged on the mini bolt cutters to completed my knipex tool belt for work.. if you like staying within one brand, i think Knipex is probably the one of highest quality brands you can get that offer just about anything you could need. also - they have some of the best cutting tools without venturing into the compound cutting tools that limit jaw opening.

i almost bought the new channellock 8" diagonals, but i really didnt like the handle design which seems to make it akward to change hand positions while using them, and unless their cutter/anivl design is a world changing design, (if so i would think i see some threads about it) i dont think they will be any better then the knipex or klein versions.

lastly, the knipex mini bolt cutters offer a fine enough cut that they will cleanly cut off the heavy duty tie wraps i use at work.

Yes, it's an old thread, but almost two years and a few purchases later, I'm still impressed with Knipex tools.

I purchase a pair of 10" diagonal cutting pliers years ago, the next day ordered all my pliers from Knipex. I have worked these tools for the last 10-years and they are still in perfect condition.

I scored my Hazet ratchets when I was stationed in Germany. They rock too! IMO, you will be hard pressed to find a inferior Knipex tool. Correction, you won't find one.
