Impulse portable A/C purchase

I have started redoing my garage to make it more functional for me as well as making it look nicer as well. One problem is that during the summer here it is in the 90s or 100s most everyday and fairly humid as well. I work out there when I can which is about 30min to an hour at a time at 10 at night and even then it is still in the 90s.
This portable A/C popped up on slickdeals at a good price and I bought it with a 2 year warranty extension for $30. After reading some reviews on here I had second thoughts and tried to cancel the order but I was told it was too late. I was told I can refuse delivery if I don't want it. I just don't want to pay all of this money and be disappointed with poor performance.
I havea 3 car, 750 sq ft garage with 128" ceiling. I just want something to take it from 90 to upper 70s and pull out some moisture from the air. To make it work I will also have to fab up some tubes to run to the attic and make the intake feed from a soffit vent as I dont have any windows that open.

good luck I hope it works out for you but I hate my portable AC it dose jack for the garage. its' only good for spot cooling and i have to aim it at me. I can leave mine running for two hour to precool the garage and it only drops it 1 to 2 degrees, this is at an ambient 88 degree.

for the vent hose you don't want that going into the attic, it dumps hot humid air, you need to exhaust that outside.

I've got something similar. I do agree- it's not as good as a window mount.

But it does an OK job of cooling my garage considering how big it is. If I turn it on in the morning it'll hold 80* when it hits 100* outside.

I purchased one from woot and just sent it back yesterday afternoon. I was extremely disappointed and I only have a 2 car garage.

From my own personal experience, I paid $1,000 for a portable AC about 10 years ago and it was the biggest waste of money ever. Here is the link to the unit I bought

With that being said - they have come a long way in 10 years, (especially with the dual hose units) and you can not overlook the fact that it gets great reviews on Amazon and is actually there #1 best seller in this category

BUT, this is what they claim the unit can do:
"cools spaces up to 500 square feet with average ambient room conditions. Use it in computer or server rooms, bedrooms, classrooms, living rooms, workshops, and more"

So knowing that you have 750 square feet to cool and much of that is probably uninsulated I am not sure what you actually expect out of it?

It looks like you got it a great price ($335) and perhaps you could use it somewhere inside the house if it does not work out in the garage?

I think you have two options - Refuse delivery or accept delivery and try it. If it doesn't work out, send it back, but be prepared to pay for return shipping because I don't think you can really consider it to be defective if it can't cool 750 sq ft

From the comments on here and elsewhere I do not believe this will be the answer I am looking for and though I got a good deal, it is still a lot of money for minimal improvement in comfort.
A window unit is not feasible and a mini split is too expensive for my budget at this time so I will have to suffice with just circulating air as best as I can.

14k Btus my rear. 1250 watts is 4k Btus. I hate to say it, but I don't think that will make a dent in a 90*, 750 square foot garage...

If you can, refuse it/return it and hopefully get a full refund...

Just open the door and put a monstrous window unit on a cart and drop a blanket over the rest. I used to do this at least spot cooling; when I over heat while working on the car I would go over to dry myself

My LG portable works good. I wrap a blanket around the tube return because that is a huge source of why people think they **** IMO. This tube is warm and the AC works against itself. Why they don't insulate them better I don't know. Try insulating the return tube.
