While reviewing my lighting needs for my new garage, in floor lighting came up for discussion. On the surface (no pun intended), it sounds like a great idea.

Any of you try them and if so, where was the placement best utilized?

What WOULD be the point, or use, of in floor lighting? Unless you were constantly under you cars/projects, I think it would be useful only as a display/accent/"mood" lighting. If you're under your car that much, you need to improve you wrenching skills!:bounce::D

I probably need to improve my wrenching skills anyway! But not for that reason. LOL

The thought of not having to cart a service light around sounded pretty good. It came up in discussion with a lighting consultant.

I see where you guys are coming from. We'll drop it from the spec.

Thanks to all for your input.

Well the new hunter alignment racks have lighting on the inside of the ramp. It's very useful. In the floor though I would almost think it may cause more shadows

There's a guy with a Lotus who built a new garage in Texas with in-floor lighting.

The GM Training Center in Warren, MI had (still has?) them.

Great idea for superior lighting - instruction, videos, and performing tasks in a hard to light area of the shop.

My dream shop has them.

But, alas - not practical for most home shops.
