Hello everyone. Glad to be a new member of the forums. I’ve already posted in the flooring section, and members have been extremely generous with their time and knowledge.
The pic here sums up what started my garage improvement journey. My intent was to add a few small panels of drywall on the garage wall door, since it was the only wall that wasn’t finished by the previous owner or builder, and I though it would make the garage a little warmer + easier to clean.

I learned a little about drywall taping and mud and began to work. While up on the ladder when I noticed that the drywall tape on the ceiling was peaked and ready to fall down. I pulled it and the whole thing peeled away from the ceiling. When I pushed up on the ceiling drywall, it’s was barely anchored to the joists.
Three weeks later and I’ve refastened, retaped, and patched most of the ceiling + all the walls. Everything has been moved out except my tools. I just finished priming everything yesterday and will paint this week. I am considering my flooring options now that I’m this far along.
Basically, I came to the realization (justifcation?) that our garage is the most used room in the house and acts as our daily entryway. It serves as a workshop, gym, bike/sports storage, extended pantry, seasonal storage, and the place where we park our cars. Why not invest some effort into optimizing the space?
Thanks again for the membership in the GJ forums!
