in ground lift

In my search for a lift I stumbled on these guys.
Sorry it's in only in french but in the site by the pics you should get the idea.

The one that interest me would be the Modèle DT-10-AS

In ground and when retracted you fold the srms in and it completely dissapear in the ground.

From what I heard, it cost about 3000 bucks installed.

I see that they have much bigger and more powerfull lifts and I'll try to contact them to see if once the lift up, if it could be locked .

Anyway I tought it was interesting lift.

If you look at the pic of the lift on the page you provided, you will see a small pole next to the main shaft. That's the locking post. Once the lift is up to its full height, a small lever pops out to lock the lift in place. Most of these types of lifts don't have intermediate locking positions for lower heights.

If this lift is anything like traditional hoists found in lots of auto repair shops, it is a hydraulic type that needs air pressure (and volume) to work.

Not knowing French either, I would assume that you will need to dig a good size hole for the main shaft and provide an air line that goes to the bottom of the lift. You will also need air lines going to a valve that's used to control the lift operation. You will also need a concrete surround for the base as it will have to provide bracing against sideways movement.

The $3000 installed price sounds pretty cheap, but I would think it could easily cost a few thousand more for a proper installation. Then there is the cost of a decent sized air compressor with enough tank volume to operate it.

I haven't seen one of those in YEARS... I believe Weaver or Globe Lifts manufactured those style of lifts up until the mid or late 1980's. $3K installed seems extremely low cost for that design...

I have a 2 post in-ground hoist. A Weaver Fore-Aft. Mine is a oldie. No safety. Since it is a 2 post there is no need for that anti rotator/safety rod.

A couple things about them. The cylinders are below ground. 2 things happen (eventually). If you wash your floor, water sits in the pit. This will rust out the cylinder eventually. They do make pumps, like a sump pump to help this situation. The second problem is caused by the first. Once it rusts, they leak all that oil out into that sump. EPA hates that. They do make plastic sumps/liners to help this problem.

Air is really not an issue. Any 5hp compressor should do the trick.

Like stated before that anti rotator will probably only have a safety at the highest point. I have seen some Rotory lifts with a couple locks, but at that price I would bet it is a stripped down unit.

If you park a car over it, how do you get the arms out of the "trap doors"?

I have an old one and it works great. Always lots of naysayers but most is folklore.

If I remember correctly, that design has a very wide drive thru clearance to allow most cars to drive thru the arms. I don't remember anyone folding the arms to the center for recess purposes. If the arms were to be recessed, the lifting height would need to be reduced by an equal amount and the recess box would need to be enlarged, I think. Interesting concept if they made a longer piston for that purpose...
