Had to go to KC for work this week and after learning about these guys here last year I knew I needed to stop in. This place did not disappoint, just piles on piles of great stuff that is hard or impossible to lay hands on many places.

I could spend hours here but unfortunately I didn’t get in until near closing time. Still there long enough to find a few things I just had to take one with me...

Maybe I’ll wrap up with my customer early enough one of the other night this week to make it back and check out some more stuff.
my wallet may not recover if I spend too much more time though, at least with a lot of this stuff it feels like you’re buying something good and the money is going to good people.
What do you all say, is there anything I need to check out?

I’m blessed to live so close (55 miles away) from HJE.
Even if you can leave without buying something, it’s a great place to see tool history.
Hope you get a chance to have a longer look around.

They are 425 miles away from me. I usually drive through there about twice a year, except for the last 2 years during the big V. Next time I drive through KC, I will stop by Epstein's...... I PROMISE!

I spent three days in downtown KC several years ago, less than half a mile from HJE. A nine minute walk, according to The Goog.

At the time I had never heard of HJE, but it's darn near heartbreaking to know I was so close and had no idea.

I **** Awardee ✋, I'm usually within 8 miles.
The **** is, en-route elsewhere 4 hours before they open. Their website is a good pacifier. Will call is alive and well.
Beware approaching their west wall, an intimidating knight in black guards the path ** . (lol, movie reference)

Walking less issue, unless you park in back. You can't pack enough quarters for street parking to achieve a decent visit. Investment in parking reaps 0.00% 'Look at what I got' posts, other than potential KCMO parking ticket.

** It's 12 point socket, about 8" or 10". Might only be 6", weighs more than I do.

Pardon me? Except brisket? Go to next American Royal.
Granted, competitors from nationwide, but it's not held in Maui, Austin, or Bellflower. They come here.
Absolute best I ever had? Not KC, close but no cigar.
Norm Calvin, his grandfather was Teddy Roosevelt's head BBQ pit chef, in possession of his entire recipe collection.

-I'll need to see some empirical evidence to validate your contention. Samples for judging should be delivered to my home while still hot for proper evaluation. Scheduling a delivery is only a phone call away, operators are standing by.

Anybody going to KC ought to sample the BBQ joints. For my money KC is the best BBQ (except for brisket)
Let me correct that for you:

BTW, we got more BBQ joints than Carter has liver pills....

Doordash is your friend, depending if you're lucky enough to be local.

I was lucky enough to have a job that required extensive travel, so I had the opportunity to sample a wide variety of BBQ over the years. Several of the joints in Austin and the surrounding small towns and especially Ashville NC are very worthy competitors. A few places in Memphis get honorable mentions as well. But i never could wrap my head around the BBQ spaghetti.

BBQ spaghetti is friggin awesome. I first had it about 12 years ago at a buddy’s 4th of July party. He later opened a BBQ joint. Perfect rib tips with a touch of crust and shredded with the sweet heat. It ruined regular spaghetti for me.

The dumpiest cities I've ever been in are St. Louis and Memphis. We had an ECS meeting at the Adam's Mark Hotel in St. Louis and I was not impressed. Is Kansas City an improvement over that? Just wondering.

How far away are they from KC tools? Does KC tools even have a space open to the public?
We are located south, in the suburb of Olathe. But, we do not have a retail space. We are 99.9% online e-commerce, so all there is to see is a warehouse full of boxes. BUT, if you are in the area, give us a call and save on shipping! We can set up a curbside pickup for you and you can swing by to pick it up!
