I've been after an OTC Genysis Evo in one shape or another, used. I've missed a few on eBay in the $500-600 range with a few attachments. I figure if I spend the money for a new mid-level scan tool on a better used one a few years old, I'm money ahead. I only do my own stuff and friends so I don't need anything too wazoo but it does need to do Euro.

Anyway, this showed up on the CL a week or two ago for $1200 with Euro to 11.4. It was a bit of a drive but the seller came to $900. I bit now I think I got way more than I need but one hell of a cool toy. Are there any dislikes of this particular system?

Dude you got one hell of a scan tool there. It does damn near everything. The only down side to that scan tool is it's speed. Its battery life is ok but unlike the new scan tools it wont switch to being powered by the car instead of using battery. We just upgraded from that scan tool (modis) to a verus or whatever. The verus has a nicer display and is faster but other than that there isnt much diffrent. The modis has a four channel lab scope too. If you dont know how to use it id watch a video or two on YouTube.

I'm floored by all the options. This one does have four batteries with it and the guy I bought it from had cables that he says will draw power from the car. I'm still learning the thing. Heading out to use it this morning on an '01 Passat.

The only thing I don't see listed in any of the menus is Games.

Doesn't that one read pretty much all the factory PID's with the right key installed..?

Must be great to be able to test all the systems on a vehicle from the drivers seat,
you can power on a single injector and stuff like that... awesome.

I'm just a DIYer and my car is 24 years old... I don't have any kind of scanner at the moment..

probably stolen

Guys story seemed to check out. Purchased new at an independent shop, started work at a GM dealer in the past year and went exclusively to tech 2. This is a pretty small area. A hot scanner on CL would probably be noticed, this is the first Modis I've seen for sale here.
