Has anyone done in-slab lighting?? Under the trucks greasing-inspecting and such we are thinking it would be nice to do have some lights down the center. We would rather stay away from the pits.

Here is a link to lights I have been looking at.

Interesting idea. The only thing I'd be concerned with is the weight capacity of the cover assembly. What if a car or truck ends up driving on it? Once damaged, they would be a ***** to replace. With careful layout they would be nice to have. Bet they're not cheap.

The ones in that link that are used for under-vehicle inspection look like a good possibility. I wonder though, how much light they put out at six feet from the floor?

High static load rating (44,000 lb.) So even a fully loaded T800 at 105,500 would not have that much PSI on one tire at once so I would think they would take a heck of a hit even something heavy being dropped.

I bet your right I am thinking $300 per fixture if not more but we would only need 3-4 as I only need them in one spot in one bay the dimming system would be a must as well to controll the level of light.

Not sure if this helps.

I wasn't sure what lights I would end up using so when I placed my slab I roughed in a sleeves for future installation of lights.

I used 6" corrugated drainage pipe and PVC conduit with mail adapters to connect them together. The plan is to wire the lights and then grout them in. The floor will get epoxy or tile so the appearance isn't important.

In the pic below you can see the four lights around the lift.

Kind of unorthodox but it might give you some ideas.

I have never seen them in a shop, but a gas station around here has them in the sidewalk outside across the front of the building.
The night girl likes to go out and put jugs of windshild fluid on them after dark.
Kind of a disco look.
Maybe for next years Xmas party?

You know....
Just today, aftr my last post, I was at a shoping center that had them in the sidewalk.
It was daytime so I don't know how they looked.
But I am guessung it was for "accent" lightng since they were along side dome pillars.
How well they would work in a shop would depend on the lens they installed.

Well it may be the cart before the horse (winter and frost is not helping us get started) but put in the order for 6 of the in slab lights. NOT CHEAP but hopefully they work great will post pics when they show up.
