New arrivals, recent finds & a really messy workshop!

As some of you will remember, late last year my Wife and I bought a new (well new to us) kitchen, which took up residence in the garage until we got around to fitting it.

Well, now we are about 90% installed, there is once again enough room in the garage to move, and therefore see what is what.

There is absolutely no way whatsoever that I went to a car boot sale and bought another box of tools. No way at all, this one err.... it followed me home ok?

Older gent's tool box, £10 ($17)

Only two layers but plenty of treasure in this one!

I am unsure of the brand of this hex drive socket set, but it should fit in the motorbike's tool box just fine:

There was also a handful of sockets to accompany this:

Some peculiar looking pliers:

And more box wrenches than I will probably ever need!

Another new maker's mark on me:

German push through 1/2" drive ratchet

The super chrome looks to have departed, but this is a very overspec'd 1/4" driver tommy bar:

Diamalloy & usa made, looks in good condition:

These came from a former aircraft mechanic's toolbox, their use as such is a mystery to me:

Interesting that a Diamalloy wrench would make it all the way to the UK. :) Do you know what brand the box is? It looks kind of like a Derby box made in Poland that I picked up at a sale a few years ago.

The "tommy bar" seems to say ATHOL between the super chrome markings. Is this correct?

I suspect that many of the special tools were made for working on WWII airplanes and their engines. If the wrench openings are American size, rather than British, they probably came over with Lend-Lease or American equipment.

Yes it looks to be ATHOL branded, I think also it has the arrow head marking which designates it as made for the war department.

Really rings a bell as a wheel nut and drain plug spanner combined, as was found in some car toolkits. If of aviation origin, was likely for some pair of related tasks, and that socket opening looks very odd for the day.

That's a nice tool box. Is there a brand name on it? If it's as old as the tools it will be nice and thick.
