They're sure worth taking and putting to use.
I miss working at a manufacturing facility...that's how I acquired my Bridgeport, Atlas drill press, Dake arbor press, and Wilton bullet vise. I'd give the company scrap value or make a donation to the charity branch whenever I took something...worked out well.

You probably would have been sick to your stomach if you saw the scrap hoppers at a machine shop i used to work at. New company bought the existing shop then came in and cleaned house. Bridgeports, manual lathes, even a Makino cnc mill, all in the hopper. Hundreds of thousands in tooling, measuring tools including micrometers to 6 feet, hand tools, pallet jacks, etc. If we removed anything from scrap it was an immediate firing. Kind of a curious way to run a business if you ask me. I wish i could have got stuff like that.

Awesome! I was a welder/crane mechanic at a large recycling facility the stuff that was scrapped would make u sick well you guys know.all my heavy c clamps the welders we used compressors oh my gosh we had stock piles of rod and wire.electric motors that were shrink wrapped companies would bring stuff in as write offs.

Same way at a manufacturing plant I worked at. Every once in a great while if you knew something was about to be scrapped and you knew who to talk to you could bring something home. But you had to get someone to fill out a form that had to be signed by a manager before you could get it. They actually took the additional step of taking a torch/drill/hammer/etc., to whatever they were getting rid of to keep people from dumpster diving on the night shifts when there were less folks looking.
Apparently the policy came about from a very small group of people essentially running side businesses selling "scrap" parts (it was a car assembly plant) and kicking back money to the people removing old equipment so they'd have first dibs on everything. So like with most good things, it only took a few people to ruin it for everyone.
The WT drill press is a good little tool if the bearings are in good shape. The bearings are odd ball and expensive to replace if it has a lot of run out. The belt cover by its self is fairly valuable. People tend to lose or break them.

Well they're both the same, so I could make one good one out of both, if I decide to ****** them. I don't have anywhere to keep them at the moment so I'd have to keep them in my cage at work. Luckily I'm the only one with the key, except it's already filled with stuff I've put aside until I get into a bigger house lol. It's the same way here as far as gettin permission slips signed, but my boss is a really good guy and never gives us problems. He breaks our balls of course, but always signs it.
Um yeah, I'd be grabbing those.

The shame of all of it being dumped...I would have loved for just one machine let alone the tooling and hand tools just makes me sick of seeing all that waste go to the dump.

I used to work at a machine shop that had some old mills as well as other machines they would not sell, just store because they looked good on the asset paperwork for the stockholders. They were there in storage for years and years. They had a rented a storage unit just for this stuff. Was still there when I left.

At least it's legit. Some guys at the local mine had a scam going, ordering allegedly needed parts for mining equipment and then taking straight to scrapyard. Finally everyone got caught and criminal charges were brought.
