For one reason or another some of us just can't get a box in the garage. Maybe you're an apartment dweller, don't have a garage or the one you have is already filled with other things. In my case, my house was built when cars were much smaller and I've got no room for the car PLUS a decent size box.

For now, I'm decorating "hillbilly chic" and have the box in a corner of my kitchen. Needless to say it hasn't been met with thunderous approval by my better half.

Is anyone else in the same boat? What bizarre places do you keep your tool box?

My first house had a spare bathroom the worked real well for a transmission rebuild shop. The landlord never found out about it and even got a security deposit back because he'd never seen that bathroom look that good at the end of a lease. Acetone and spraypaint can do wonders for an ATF stained bath tub!

i have both of mine stuffed in a bedroom/storage room for the last couple months. moved outta my place with a small 1.5 garage, to a place with no garage.

wont be here long, but there is no way im leaving them out in a shed, even ifs they are locked, the shed is locked and chained... just aint happening :willy_nil

on another note, the floor is creaking down the hall, adjacent to where the box is in the bedroom.... that cant be good. gonna have to cut up some 2x10s or something to distribute the weight a little better.... :lol_hitti

i too have done transmissions on the kitchen table years ago....

I've only done one engine overhual in the kitchen, then I realized it was much easier to get things in/out the front living room door after cutting down the azalia bush and parking next to the porch. My tool box was in the "junk room" and I had a carry box with the primary used portable.

My first place out of college (small townhouse rental) didn't have a garage, so I kept mine in the dining room. It's not like I had or even wanted a dining room table at the time. :) I was far more interested in collecting tools to work on my CJ.

I used to have a shelf filled with tools/boxes on the loft of our apartment, when we lived in one. Girlfriend didn't care at all. She never spent time up there, anyway.

To the OP, if this works for you I have an idea. My gf's uncle built a back room on his garage about 10 ft deep and the width of the garage and keeps his tools in there, leaving the garage open. Depending, maybe nailing a nice storage shed from the big box stores to back of the garge could be an option.
