Incomplete Wright Set with Different Gen Wrenches

Would it bother anyone if their wrench sets are pieced together with different Gen models from the same make?

Ive been piecing together a Wright chrome SAE and MM set, adding to it when I find a deal. The standard set is mostly Gen 1.0 chrome with a 3/4 thats probably much older (and supposedly new), but a mix of 1.0 and 2.0 for the few metric wrenches I have.

I’d like to complete the metric set up to 20 mm but haven’t found many deals. Abolox offers Wright but they take weeks to ship and prices aren’t that great. Neither is their shipping charges.

Doesn’t bother me. I have wrench and socket sets like that which I’ve put together. Also it doesn’t bother me to have different brands mixed in either. Just me but others might not like it and that’s fine.

You really can't be picky when you're trying to be cheap though.

If you are purchasing a full set new, it's reasonable to assume that all the pieces will be of similar (if not exact same) design.
If you're trying to piece together a set second-hand, you may be in for a wait to find matching pieces. This is true of any vintage tool - wrenches or sockets or socket drive tools.
Five years later, I'm still looking for a decent copy of an Indestro Super 1725 7/16" x 1/2" open-end, and two years later I'm still looking for decent copies of Elora 100 8mm x 9mm and 10mm x 11mm and 17mm x 19mm open-ends. (and that's only the ones I can pull off the top of my head.)

Yeah, if you are looking for tools in flea markets, etcetera, you will have a hard time assembling a complete set from the same brand, except for maybe Craftsman. But if you are really OCD, you'll notice that the quality of Craftsman wrenches varies greatly, depending on the OEM.

These are 1 off new I purchased along the way. I just uploaded a pic. That 3/4 was supposed to be new gen1 but idk what era thats from. It was almost new when I got it, 1 small scratch.

Yeah, I replaced a missing Craftsman wrench with one from eBay. It appeared the same online but turned out to have a somewhat different angle on the box end.

Hopefully, one of these days I'll come to terms with this situation and stop tossing and turning all night thinking about that wrench.

I bought a set of Wright SAE wrenches, and they were mixed between WrightGrip and WrightGrip 2.0.

If the 2.0 engraving was left off, I doubt you could tell the difference.

You could always sell what you have now and buy a complete set. The bigger sets look to run around $250. I'm actually surprised they're so reasonably priced. SK would be double that or more.

it all depends on how bad your OCD is. A wrench is a wrench is a wrench, and the fastener can't tell the difference
Look at it this way, I have wrench sets that look like a mixture of old and new wrenches because, I work on a lot of GM so, 8, 10, 13, 15, and 18mm are worn while the 12, 14, 16, and 17mm are lightly used despite all of the wrenches being purchased at the same time.

I've got a 1/4 to 1" Matco set with WCL, RCL & MCL series wrenches, the 1-1/16 & 1-1/8 are Armstrong (MCL equivalent). Makes me no nevermind for the most part, particularly since I've had them a long time. If there was some variation in length between sizes it'd be more of an issue to me, not really a functional problem though.

I’d like to have all matching and it irks me that my 3/4 is not at least a 1.0. I thought it wouldn’t but I was wrong…

I have a mixed set of SAE Wrightgrips in my field repair bag that I use pretty often. They’re mixed because I had to have about 4 or 5 of them warrantied due to severe chrome peeling and they gave me 2.0’s. It doesn’t bother me at all. I’m glad to have dependable, strong wrenches in my field bag where there are literally no other options. The repair HAS to be made.

However both my Wright sets were purchased new from HJE
They are 1.0 Wright grips.
