Anyone know what this tool is used for ? I found it while trying to clean and organize everything last week. I included a picture of the tool. I am been working on things for over 50 years and for the life of me I never remember using this. Thanks for looking. Tom

Now for a bit more info. This tool is used on rear disk brakes that use an integrated parking brake. First match the correct lug pattern on the tool to the corresponding holes in the rear disk brake caliper piston and use the tool with a 3/8" drive extension and ratchet to rotate and retract the piston back into the caliper to replace pads. Simple and effective.

FWIw, I have yet to find any read disc brake caliper that these cubes will actually perform said function on....so for me it's a paper weight.

If you don't need it, they are worthless. When you need one the are worth their weight in gold. I'm finding more and more of them.

That company must have made a fortune though. Seems like every old tool box I buy has one of those in it.

I had no idea about these until I was replacing the rear brakes on my 04 LeSabre. Thank god the lady asked if I had one, I would have crushed those calipers with my vise, lol. Its a little tricky to use but once you line it up right it works great.

Maybe some cars really do need it, but in my experience, this is one of the only tools that I don't need, and don't really want (welp, not such that I'd pay for it), at least with the brakes I've worked on.

Needlenoses. Seriously. My factory service manual says to use them, and I can't IMAGINE a clumsy little cube being as helpful, or really, even getting my pistons to turn.

I really wish they'd make fronts with a dummy parking brake screw, to make them easier to work on...

Most of them are made out of too soft of metal, and the corresponding holes/slots in the piston are rather shallow, so they have a tendency to round off if there is more than a nominal amount of resistance to piston turning.
