Yup, read up on Alloy Artifacts.

Indestro used to be one of the big tools companies. They sold stuff under their own name and private labeled quite a few tools. I find a lot of Indestro-made Wizard tools. Wizard was a brand sold by Western Auto.

The Indestro open-gear ratchets are relatively rare, from what I've seen. I've seen and bought many Indestro ratchets, but I've only seen the open gear versions a couple times. I've seen more of the Thorsen open gear ratchets. In my area, at least.

I'd say its worth 8 to 12 on Ebay. The 1/4 dr Indestro/Duro stuff goes for higher money, especially if its their fine tooth line. They were made here in Chicago, I see them everywhere. There is a show your indestro tools here somewhere.

You should gather up all your ratchets and post a pic of them in the show your ratchet thread.

Can't do much better than $1 for that ratchet. I thought only Thorsen did those open-head designs but I'm obviously wrong. (Was there a Thorsen-Indestro relationship at some point?)

$1 is a great deal for that ratchet.

Larry, P&C also made an open head design. I also have a P&C made Proto 1/4" open head ratchet. Same part number as the standard Proto pear head ratchet.

I have a couple of those. I've never used them, although I acquired them new about forty years ago. Indestro was excellent quality.

This Indestro Super #3275 1/2" ratchet was in a $10 handfull of tools I dug out of a pawnshop "junk bin". It's a USA made 52 tooth ratchet with nice knurling on the handle and a very smooth positive ratcheting action. I couldn't resist. Anybody have an idea as to its age?

Go easy on it. I've found quite a lot of that style of ratchet, and they're often broken. I think the mechanism may be delicate.

Wright still makes open face ratchets, 3/8" drive--3480, 1/2" drive--4480. When I saw HJE sells them I got a 4480 during the July extravaganza--couldn't resist--just watch out the gears can grab skin, hair, and clothing!

Does anyone know if all the drive sizes included a dust cover.? My 1/2" does but
I just picked up a 1/4" and it doesn't look like it ever did.

I recently found one of the matching 3/8" breaker bars. I was thinking that I may want to find the ratchet, but I don't need another tool collecting obsession (vises, vintage metal levels, Stanley #199/299 knives). After seeing it, it's going to be tough not finding/buying one. Oh brother, this tool thing is getting bad!

My experience is that this is the case for all brands except craftsman and SO. I buy allot at Estate sales and everything except Craftsman is considered garbage by the sale organizers. Simply put, the average person only knows CM and that they can get a free replacement.

Didn't some of these open head designs come with snaped-on covers?

Heard that, Brother!

Although I'll slink away from the thread now... I got my Indestro 6411 for free (Found it in a pile) ...and my Indestro 2875 for free...

I recently scored one of them myself. I also have the matching breaker bar. So...now I'm developing a hankering for Indestro Select tools. This past weekend I found a 1/4" Wizard ratchet so that will be added to the collection. Great score for $1!!:rocker:
