Has anyone ever broken one of these? I'm curious as to how much force/abuse one of these things will take before failing.

The snap on ones are beautiful, the gearwrench ones are decent but bulky, and you need to watch that they don't come loose. They are all relatively strong. I would like to see the SK ones up close.

The SK one is beastly but I haven't had it long enough to find out it's limitations. I can tell you there is absolutely zero play so I have great faith.

Bought a gearwrench one for the knuckledraggers at my last job. They bent it.

We received one to try out on our fire truck several years ago from a company call Radiallock IIRC. They have since ceased to exist so we still have it. I know some guys on a neighboring department that had two. Both of theirs failed at the joint. One locked up and the other stripped. Ours has tried to lock up but with much attention, we've kept it working. I have two Craftsman at home which have been good but they don't get the abuse of the one's on the fire truck.

Got a 3pc set of SK ones, relatively small sizes, only a few uses so far, its not often that they are needed for what I do, but very handy to have about when you do need one. Not broke one yet.

I turned my 12 inch SK in today for warranty. It got too gunked up from my hazardous environment. I've thoroughly pushed it to it's limits. Ultimately the button just froze up with all the schmoo!

Depends on what you're trying to use it on, but quite often there's no room to get the end of a non-indexible prybar where you want it. There's almost always something in the way. A typical prybar or wrecking bar needs the handle to stick almost straight out from what you're prying and a ladyfoot runs right up beside it. The indexible heads let you do both and many positions in between.

I have a set of the GearWrench indexable pry bars and have been using them in and around the gas plant I work in for over 5 years now. Use them for everything...prying flanges apart, lifting pumps/motors to install shims when doing alignments, working on our recip compressors, etc. Never had an issue with them bending, breaking, etc and we have really abused them.

I've got the 3-piece Snap-on indexing set that I have put through hell and back over the past 8 or so years I've had them. I can't recommend them enough but I have no experience with the SK ones.

I also purchased the 48" extendable/indexing prybar from Matco about 5 years ago and have been very impressed and pleased with how it performs.

Without a cheater?
What bent...The tip or the handle?

I bent one of the adjustable ones, it was just behind the foot and luckily doesn't impact opening or closing anything. I have the really big one and haven't used it enough to know. I also own a set of Snap On ones and they are definitely nicer quality.

I reach for my 'normal' mayhew dominators out of habit and because I have a large range of sizes, but my napa gearwrench rebrands have worked faultlessly for at least 5 years. Just used one the other day getting a transfer case split. I can't say they've had nearly the consistent hard life my 'normal' bars do, but I haven't had any problems with them either.. I'm sure the SO are great, but i'd try the gw first to see if you'll use them and if they don't do the job, pay the piper..
