Got this today from a neighbor and wonder the age and if it is unique.
It's cast iron 13" wide and 4.5"tall probably 3"deep, It's in exceptional condition.
The leaf spring actually works.
Is this from the same company that produced the motorcycles? The "Indian" script looks similar.

Wow!

Yes, it's the same 'Indian'.

Let me be the first to say, "You ****!"

Check out the attached auction details (but don't let your neighbor see them!)...Item #1007B

$1045! For the shock absorber model

$3045 for this poster.

$19,250 for the midget racecar. I think that may be a V8-60 Ford engine

Anyone interested in old cars, motorcycles and vintage ephemera should spend time looking at the collection and what things went-for.

A Delorean went for $27,500 which seems a lot.

A luxury car 1964 T-bird was a bargain at $3,300, and which looked to be in decent condition.

The #1 high-price item, $48,400 for a 1932 Indian Four which was an engine design first seen as the 1911 Henderson.

I'd think that one of the best deals to be had was a 1991 H-D big-twin, an FLHS for $3,575, < 10K miles on the odo, and which looks to be in very good shape.

$24,200 for a shovelhead dresser w/sidecar, showing < 10K miles on the odo.

Thank-you to the O.P. for posting the links to this auction.

Let me be the first to say, I don’t understand how the shock absorber is supposed to work. Is it just that little black thing clamped to the right side of the spring? Anybody know how it works?

The Indian shock absorber ,according to Sucher ,was little more than a con ,the Indian Motocycle Co,having been a plaything of tricksters and stock promoters for all of the 1920s ,until Eric Du Pont bailed the company out.

Indian had two small shock absorbers on the frame at the rear. If placed at the ends of this device, it could be determined whether they exerted the same amount of force on the spring. Any difference would certainly affect handling.

The shock absorber was meant to be fitted to car springs ...........nothing to do with motorcycles.
