Thanks to my hard working and loving wife, I am in the process of having a dream garage built 52'x'52'x24' tall. Bendpak lift is already here, just waiting for the garage to get completed. Thanks to all on the GJ forum for the inspiration to build this garage!

Garage is being built on our Basketball court, that is why we had to cut it to put in the footers for the load bearing wall. Will be pouring another concrete pad in front of it to put back the goals on -- my two girls are still playing ball for another few years

Great use of a basketball court. Not sure how you got the girls approval though, must have bribed them with "if I build this garage on your court I'll re-build some cool cars for you"

The girls think that they will now be able to play INDOORS all year long in the garage since the ceilings are 14' high + we are adding a 25'x52' concrete pad in front of the garage also..but the big sell..as you mentioned..was telling them that the garage was needed to do maintenance on their cars. All they heard was 'we are going to have a car!!' not a word of dissent from them since. My oldest will be getting her permit next year...no way she is getting a car new enough to be under warranty...so I know that I will be fixing cars for a while! Man I just can't wait for the garage to get under roof.

Whats the inside layout going to be and what do you plan to do with the upstairs? I'm looking to do 44x48 with 16' sidewalls and scissor trusses to make room for 10' basketball goal. Please keep us updated I will be following closely.:rocker:

As a former Hoosier (now living in California) I have to say it seems like the best use of a basketball court I've seen yet!

(now you can see why I'm a 'former' Hoosier!)

A little issue today on the build, the LVL headers were found to be undersized, they all have to be replaced with larger ones, but the framing crew will take care of that tomorrow and they were able to get most of the 2nd floor joists up. Roof attic trusses were delivered, driver got stuck in the yard, plenty of ruts to repair when this is all done, just wish the rain would hold off for a few more weeks, but rain in the forecast for the next 3 days.

Re: Indiana Dream Garage Build is NO MORE!!

Mother Nature kicked our Southern Indiana arses this week. Storms and tornados everywhere, 4 local schools hit by tornados, towns all around destroyed..Pekin, Henryville and Marysville all gone...many homes destroyed and my DREAM GARAGE IS NO MORE...leveled to the ground...Mother Nature sure knows how to make a grown man cry...Thank God no one was hurt at our house, unfortunately many family and friends have lost homes today and some deaths have occurred...I pray I don't know any of them. Pray for the people in Southern Indiana today!

Very sorry to hear of the damage and the loss of others up there. I have been watching the news today and have wondered if any felow Gj's have had damage. I hope that some of your lumber will be reuseable and back up in it's place.

More pics of the damage to my garage....I am hoping that the weather holds off for a while and I can get it tore apart and stacked. Not sure what the insurance is going to do for me yet. I am still hearing that more and more friends and my kids class mates have lost their homes...it is just total destruction here in Southern Indiana. Got to watch the tornados go by today, just got missed by the massive one that destroyed Henryville and Borden...feel lucky in a way

Sorry to hear that. I am sitting here in northeast TN and we have tornadoes all around us RIGHT NOW. Warning for another 2 hrs. I have a new pole building that was just erected a couple weeks ago. I hope it doesn't get damaged. It is insured but it would still ****. I would recommend to you to not go out there and start cleaning it up UNTIL THE INSURANCE INSPECTOR LOOKS AT IT. If you have to, call your ins. co. and ask if it is ok. I had tornado damage to a building last summer and my ins. told me not to do anything to the debris UNTIL I TOOK A LOT OF PICTURES.

Damn, man! That stinks about the garage getting hit. Glad that you and your family are all O.k. The destruction down there looks terrible. The tornados basically wiped some of those towns off of the map. It's gonna be a long time rebuilding. Thoughts and prayers for my fellow Hoosiers.

Sorry too see your damage Bud. I had a barn a few years ago that got blew down twice before we finally got it put up. So I've been there...done that! I know exactly what your feeling right now! You just got to pull up them boot straps and go to work, thats all one can do! Don't let it get you down cause you are right about being lucky, it could have been much worse. My moto is if we make it out alive everything is fine!

The tornadoes yesterday went just to the south of my property here. I said prayers for those in Henryville, Marysville and Chelsea that lost everything...very sad to watch footage of the total destruction of those little towns. God bless those that lost loved ones in the area.

I'm glad to hear you and your family are safe. I hope your insurance company doesn't try to screw around with you and that this is just a minor set back.

rgood the good news is that you and your family are safe, and your garage wasn't really destroyed . . . just pushed over! I am sure you will be up and building again in not time.

Glad to hear you and yours are okay.

Please don't let Mother Nature take away this dream of yours. Keep going! Years from now it will just look like a minor setback in the whole build process.

I'm reminded of your thread when the weather gets ugly, and I hope you are getting back on track.
I'm sure I'm not the only member waiting for your new and improved build.
Best of luck!
