Do i need outdoor fans for a garage that's going to be closed up most of the time. Will be insulated, and kept fairly well controlled temps most of the time.
Industrial fans will move more air than residential models. The motors are designed for continuous duty and the blades have more pitch. Look on CL for used units, they almost never wear out.
I have four very used industrial fans in my shop that were in a retail store for years before I removed them and hung them in my shop.
You don't if it's not too humid in there. Can't go wrong with some industrial fans though. I put a couple 60" Envirofans in my 32'x40'x16' building and they work well.
In a Tennessee summer, if its not humidity controlled, you will have drooping blades on a typical indoor fan used in less than a climate controlled environment. You can get a nice "industrial" 60 inch three blade fan from Home Depot for $89 that has a hard plastic blade and moves a ton of air.
I put indoor fans outside on a covered porch. As others stated, they did droop, but it took a few years. And I could flip them over and they were good for another year.
They stayed this way for at least 5 years before I found outdoor blades for cheap.
I bought a Harbor Breeze Slinger 72" fan from Lowe's website. For some reason I couldn't paste it here. Been very happy with it. Runs 24/7 in my shop. Lowe's website item#198689
