Anyone had experience with Indow window inserts or other brand window inserts? Found Indow while searching for inserts for single-pane windows. They're acrylic customer fit compression fit window inserts.

Indow sends you a measuring kit then they send you custom compression fit acrylic inserts you install. We have two tall narrow single pane fixed windows with space for inserts. Combo of single pane and aluminum frame transfers cold in winter and yeat in summer.

Window inserts would be a pain on windows that open but seem like a good option for our fixed windows. They add up quickly for our 6 ft tall x 1 ft wide and 6 ft tall x 1.5 ft wide it would be about $400. Standard inserts are $27 a square foot and $36 for premium.

I used the windowinserts.com version over glass block in my finished basement. I could really feel the cold coming off of the glass block. I dont notice any cold coming from them now. I have thought about getting them for a couple other windows but just have not made it a priority. I am happy with results. I have not taken them out since they were installed a couple years ago.

It's a lot more than I thought a non framed insert would cost. Close to the cost of replacement dual pane vinyl frame windows in some cases. The new dual panes with the wood look fiberglass exterior and real wood interior are what's going in the custom home around here but those are expensive.

We replaced most of our windows with Anlin Windows and Patio sliders. They're a company in Clovis, CA that makes custom-sized replacement windows. The last two single pain weren't practical to replace and would require a lot of demo and repair to install.

It's an interesting product and it eliminates the glass danger -- I worry about scratching. I had wood framed glass done .. nothing is cheap .

For those following along at home or reading this later here's some more info.

I spoke with a rep on Thursday and he said the standard is somewhat scratch resistant but you can upgrade. Standard is $27 sq ft, premium is $36 sq ft, scratch-resistant industrial is $41 sq ft for my zip code not sure if it varies. My two windows would be $400 for standard. They weren't sure if they can fit my slightly off plum/non-square application and I'll know more next week. It's only a 1/4 to 1/2 inch off in places.

These are our last two single-pane windows. They'd be difficult to replace and the quotes for replacing were very high so inserts could fill in until we're ready to pay for new windows. Last night the area by the windows was 58-60 degrees vs 66-68 degrees in the house. Single pane aluminum frame windows are some of the worst for thermal transfer.

From doing basic research I like the company. No complaints at the local BBB and mostly positive reviews elsewhere. They're trying to fill a niche application of older homes that need affordable options for weatherproofing. They're a little more than other window inserts but it looks like they may have a better fitting system. The system of sending you out a measurement kit a Leica Disto 7100 and instructions for self measure isn't perfect and we're working through my application. I have a Leica Disto 7400x but they still wanted to send me their self measuring kit.
