Hi there I just picked up a free industrial 80g champion air compressor from work that they just replaced. Don't know for sure what the problem is with it but tank looks to be in good condition. I know motor will not work because it a 3 phase 575. But just wondering if I replace it with an other motor will it be the only thing that needs to be replaced? If that was the original problem with it that is. Here are some pics. One of plate on motor u can see u can't read clearly because it had oil on it so when I went to wipe it clean most of the information came off. Other is pump #. Motor is a 10hp u think I can get away with a lesser power motor? Just because of price. Looking for a used 1 phase motor. U think a 5hp would be able to run it? Not constantly for home use.

looks nice. If indeed it is just a motor that needs replaced and you plan on going with 5 hp be aware that you will have to run the compressor at a slower speed than it ran with a 10 hp motor. This can be done by using a smaller pulley (sheave) on the motor. If you try to run it at the same speed it used to run it will require 10 hp and you will trip your circuit breaker, or burn up the 5 hp motor if you do not correctly protect the circuit for your 5 hp motor. Only by slowing down the compressor will you reduce the horsepower required to run it.

That's a big pump, probably a R30. If so, that is set to run at 740 RPM with a 10HP motor. You probably need to run it with not less than a 7.5 HP motor.
