Long story short, I have a 10" mitering Everett dry abrasive saw that needs a motor. From the factory they ship with a 3hp 3450 motor. Does anyone have experience with a fractional say in the 1/2-3/4hp 3450 on these? Does it become extremely under powered? Yes, I have full appreciation for ample powered abrasives. Just something for the occasional chopping of HSS stock and the like, a very seldom 1" solid max, most of the time 1/2" and under. Realy want it to be common 110v for portability :dunno:

Well, I would say that if you're cutting your horsepower by that much, then yes the saw will be a pooch. There is really no way around it. If you took a 300hp car and replaced the engine with one that only makes 50hp, do you think you might notice a difference?

Not sure here, but I assume if you keep the RPM up and reduce the feed rate it will work. May need to dress wheel if it glazes due to low feed rate.

1/2 HSS feels like it would be OK.

Strangely, the HP needs for grinding can increase at lower SFM, so keeping the RPM the same is important IMO.
