Industrial Design taken too far?

So I was just poking around a few sites because I'm debating about a 1/4" clicker torque wrench. I then come across the Gedore 762-05. I don't know if Gedore hired a designer that was rejected by Ikea, but it is an odd looking duck to me - and the price runs about $500ish. Anyone know why the head design is so weird?

It looks like the OP's torque wrench was designed by the same person who designed the costumes for "Spaceballs".

I came across it while searching. There's no way I would pay that much for a 1/4" torque wrench - or any size torque wrench for that matter. I'm too much of a tight@ss. Plus it just looks weird as sh**. I don't even see how one would switch the ratcheting direction - unless it's one of those that's only meant to work in one direction.

Well, if I win the 1+ billion $ MegaMillions tonight...

Reminded me of another thread where there was complaint on how "ugly" new battery powered delivery vehicles are.

They're delivery vehicles. Who cares what they look like?

This wrench with a padded handle and rounded head, might have merit in a world of repetitive stress injury and tight assembly areas. :dunno:

If it's main use is in industry, why not a high price?

That was me and it was about how ugly almost all battery powered vehicles are. Except Tesla, hence their success.

Fair enough, It must be personal preference for sure.

I always thought the Tesla look (not that it was bad) was an improved version of the Ford Taurus and as far as their success, I tribute it more to the fact that from a technical and price standpoint - in the EV sedan class, they really didn't have much of any competition.

Still don't, at least for now.

IME most delivery trucks (of any class) that are designed for looks, don't really seem to make the grade anyway. Most drivers just don't want them to break down, which is where I want them to put their development and design money .

Looks to me like a good choice for exposed carbon fiber projects where one stupid nick could cause a world of grief. Other then that, ya it’s ugly

First, its a slipper torque wrench wich makes it impossible to overtorque.
Second its for industrial use all day long w/o the need to be recalibrated every 500-1000 clicks.
The round head, makes it harder to damage paint and other stuff on the assembly line with it.
