I picked up an entire truckload of stuff at an estate sale for $75, metal table/desk included. Ended up selling the table for $75 which paid for the whole load. Lots of people collect those desks....

My Globe Wernicke bookcase is made of oak with up and over glass doors and is modular in horizontal sections.

Not sure if this was covered in this extensive thread, but these old desks are readily
available on public auctions sites (e.g., publicsurplus.com or auctions international).
School districts and colleges routinely sell off massive batches of items, and desks are
among the most common items. Not all the desks are fancy art-deco Steelcases, but
some are.

Thanks.
It's just stripped, then sanded at 80, 220 and 300 grit, then coated Penetrol to seal it a bit.
In areas of use, the Penetrol will wear, but a quick wipe will sort it back out.
I want to do this with my tool chests. Is Penetrol a brand name? Does it dry to the touch? Is this better / easier than shooting a clear coat over the bare metal?
Penetrol is made by Flood. Should be able to get it at Lowes/Home Depot.
It does dry to the touch.
I like it better than clearcoat, but that is just a personal preference. It seems to "look" better.
That said, it can wear off. High use areas will need to be reapplied.
