I just picked up a CONSEW 206RB (not 206RB-# just RB) for $40 off CL. Windowed doctor whose wife was also a doctor. I assumed the ad left off a zero ($400), but it was real. Now I need to learn about the machine. I am hoping to sew leather and fire hose to make cases/sheaths for tools (axes, knifes, etc.)

Machine: CONSEW 206RB
Motor" SUNCO 1/3 HP clutch motor

I plan to grease/oil the machine. I know that I need SEWING MACHINE oil, but what about the grease for the two gear boxes. I watched a vid that said just use the BEST grease you own.

Nice machine. Not sure your experience level with seeing but when I was learning, the instructor had us dry sewing( no thread in machine) notebook paper to learn how to follow lines and learn pedal and hand coordination. Once you get straight lines down, draw curved lines with a pen and repeat the process

Wow, that's a beauty, and a great price!
I occasionally see people giving away industrial Singers, but never in nice condition, and never a Consew. Those and Juki fetch great money around here.

I wish I had the space for one, but for now, I'll have to be happy with my Brother.

I have a Singer 29-4 and a 31-15. But they are just for fun, nothing serious.

Nice score! and a great first machine, with the large bobbin and walking foot you get bonus points!...
you should easily be able to sew a triple thickness of belt leather with that machine and the walking foot will be a real bonus with dissimilar or slippery materials ( make sure you set the foot pressure appropriately for the work ) with a little practice. I find most new operators have trouble in two areas - following curves, while moving around material, and slow stitching. curves just take time and practice, do simple curves, diamonds and circles, and then practice doing a parallel stitch right next to the first row to develop even stitch line spacing. Low speed operation- get a straight stitch going and back off the speed until you can control the speed at a couple stitches per second, use your right hand to apply a little drag to the handwheel if it starts to speed up... or to keep it from surging if you need to give it a little gas to maintain speed. use an assortment of materials from shoebox type cardstock to heavy leather denim and light cotton or slippery synthetics, lycra etc. just get a feel for how it handles different materials- but- do not sew neoprene or rubbery type materials until you are very comfortable with all those other materials, as they tend to screw up thread tension and make a hellish bobbin birdsnest or feed unevenly unless sandwiched in poly plastic that can be torn away when sewing is finished.

ndnchf, what do you use your patcher for? I have an Adler of a similar vintage and a Pfaff flatbed that I use for leather and webgear as well as some upholstery work.

Get on the hotrodders forum and look under interiors. Lots of info there on those sewing machines.

We have a sewing thread on this forum. I think it was started by nine4gmc, and he is certainly one of the more knowledgeable as he does car upholstery.

Hi! I’m brand new to this forum. I just bought a Chandler Consew model 203ZC or 203ZO or 2O3Zc (don’t know if it’s got zeros or letter Os). I can’t find ANYTHING about it. It sews like butter, but I’d like to get a zipper foot for it and don’t know how to know what parts it’ll use. I’m starting to worry that parts are going to be super hard to find. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I’d find the manual and/or part compatibility info? Any info would be super appreciated!
