I need to build a new set of sawhorses. I need them to hold 300-400 pounds each. Was wondering if any of you had some good designs for heavy-duty sawhorses I can build myself. I did a search on Google and came across some weenie-looking 1-by sawhorses. Guess they would be good for the average homeowner, but we at GJ are anything but AVERAGE.

I have a pair built similar to the ones Stuart was talking about. Right now two of them are holding up my 6.5' x 30' triaxle utility trailer it weighs right around 2000lbs. They are 5 foot long built with 2x4 legs, but the vertical web on the Ibeam is 2x6, the bottom flange is ripped down from a 2x6, the plywood on the sides is 3/4, and the cross bars on the legs are 2x4. The legs are 36" and the bottom stance is roughly 30". They are rock solid. Screw them together with quality 3 - 3-1/2" screws, dont nail them or use drywall screws.
