I wanted to get things like a wall-mounted vacuum, retractable extension cords (wall- or ceiling-mounted), air compressor, etc. Any other things you would ask for that are around $50-$100?

What are your recommendations? Keep in mind I would like to NOT deter fammily and friends from buying these things due to the price. Probably around $50-$100, but I know the compressor would be more.

What is the size hose for the shop vacs that allows you to buy inexpensive hose? I saw comments before about people buying ones that were compatible with other vacuums and attachments.

Here are a few things I have gotten in the last few years. They are all under $100.
Drill Press Vise - very handy!!
Cordless trouble light
new Jack Stands
palm sander
Garage signs (beer, car related)
safety glasses (nothing like a fresh unscratched pair of glasses)
goodyear rubber hose
bar stool for my work bench

This is what I just emailed my wife:

I am looking around for ideas as to the exact items I want, but here's a list of things just in case I don't get the EXACT items to you. Not that I would let this pass by... I think the descriptions should be pretty clear as to what I am looking for in each item.

Wet/Dry shop vac. Does not have to be ShopVac brand name.
- At least 5 gallons
- Would prefer one with a drain so I could **** up water, connect a garden hose to the other end so it drains out into the yard vs having to **** up 5 gallons, dump, repeat...
- Wall-mounted would be ideal
- They make them with a standard vacuum size so it's compatible with other inexpensive hoses, attachments, etc.
- LONG hose preferred so I can simply go around the cars without having to lug the vacuum all over the garage. I think the longer ones are somewhere around 18'

Air compressor
- But that is probably too expensive
- Something powerful enough for air tools, paint sprayers, etc.

Wall-mounted retractable extension cord
- LONG and a heavy gauge

Garage creeper chair
- Low chair with wheels for working on things like brakes
- I'd prefer something with a tray in the bottom
- Griot's Garage has a cool one that has a seat, removable knee cushion and storage underneath http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/garage+seat+caddy+kneeling+pad.do?sortby=ourPicks
- They sell these at Lowe's as well. I think they are blue Kobalt chairs

That's all for now!

That list would probably be different for different peoples needs and circumstances. Put a wish list together of what you really need for your shop.

My son asked me what Ii wanted for father's day and everything I needed was too expensive, so I asked him if he would just help me replace some wood work on the house.

For a shop vac, I think the standard for a decent unit is a 2 1/2" hose. Anything smaller gets clogged easy. I've had both, go with a bigger unit. For a wall mount, I would not go smaller than this

I just got this yesterday! Quite impressive from the looks of it. I told my wife, "I guess I'm obligated to clean out your truck now." ;) Got a $75 Lowe's gift card from mother-in-law and my sis-in-law and husband are coming over tomorrow with more presents.

MY parents just went to Glacier National Park, so they got me the "Who Pooped in the Park" book (to identify animal ****), a small "POOPOOPAD" notepad made from moose poop - "putting the brown in being green" and a small photo frame with a couple pics from when I was 4 and throwing a tantrum. Nice. WTF? You gonna take all your money with you when you die too!? ;)

Karma? My parents were visiting for my birthday and my Dad bought a framed print for $375 + $163 shipping back to CT. He just called and told me package arrived today and it's completely destroyed.
