Have to comment on this inexpensive tool set sold by General. They call it a Hook and Probe set, I call it a small Pick set. Only 7" long. First set was so handy, a couple years later I bought a second set. I've worn down the tip of one pick with use, but have not broken any so far. Nice aluminum knurling. Nothing fancy. Just an inexpensive, hard-working tool. Purchased the set at OSH for <$10.

since you mentioned small hook and pick set

i was pleasantly surprised by the 4 piece stanley hook and pick set. It is identical to gearwrench except the handles. i found it in walmart. It has this 'gunmetal' color metal shafts, instead of the usual 'polished potmetal' feel of the cheap sets...
i bought it to use as my disposable abuse set, but holding up pretty good so far...

I have those ones they are good for real small stuff or else they bend. The best set I got has the big hook and picks and small and gasket scraper I got it on sale from world discount for 13 bucks, auto plus has them too.

Which ones you referring to? OP (General) or the post just above yours (HarFers)?

Regarding the orange HarFers, how big are they?

Bolster,

The next time you go to the dentist, ask them for the Accu-Bite catalog. The selection is MIND BOGGLING, the prices are pretty good and they have miniature first-surface inspection mirrors to boot!

mine didn't bend and using them on retaining rings on bearings :wtf: there not a pry bar there just pick set .......

Well documented "feature" of HarF tools. Different batches. Some good, some bad. You never really know what you're going to get.

Same source as the last batch? Did Wong do the heat treat right this time? Who knows? Buy it and find out.

I bought my HF picks in a little set about 5 years ago for $1.99 with a coupon and have used them a bunch over the years. I have probably ended up using the little torx drivers just as much as the picks to tell you the truth. They have never bent and have been pretty damn good little tools for me.

for $2, the hf'ers are ok, but they tend to spin in the handle. i'd really like to find a set that doesn't.

I dont care for the HF pick sets, IMO the business ends are too sharp. I mean if i was stranded in the wilderness and had to kill a deer, They would be awesome. :bounce: On the plus side... There cheap and they will get the job done. I prefer the Snap on Mini Pick sets and they by far have the best 45 Degree picks, Which is the workhorse for me.

I like my craftsmans. they have a standard set with the famous clear plastic acitate handles and they have a xl set with dipped rubber handles. Works for me.

THANKS
