I'd be interested to find a HC gas analyzer for use with detecting blown head gaskets. The only problem is the prices these units usually go for. Is there anything cheap out there that works well, even if it's made in China? Thanks in advance!

You should never just rely on just on test but that dual chamber Uview unit is solid. Hydrocarbons should not be present in the coolant period.

Followed up with a leak down test, one should be able to determine logically if the head gasket is leaking.

The best method I have found, is pressure transducer or pulse sensor on the cooling system, and a sync off of a coil pack for TDC compression sync.

If there is a mythical low cost gas analyzer, I would also be interested.

Try searching at CI Analytics, they have some varieties of gas analyzers. :)
