Inexpensive non-quick release ratchets?

Are there any other inexpensive brands of ratchets without the quick release besides harbor freight?

I really hate quick release ratchets and love my snap on ones that don't have it. But, I need some cheaper tools to throw on the truck. Ones I don't mind if they go missing. I like the harbor freight ratchets a lot, but the reversed pawl mechanism drives me nuts. I'm looking for alternatives, but every inexpensive taiwan ratchet seems to have the stupid quick release.

Thanks,
Kevin

Gearwrench 84t at advance auto and use the coupon code.
The paw is not 'reversed' and not quick release.
Or
Duralast 36t at Autozone.
They are all in the $20 range.

Gear wrench, SK, Wright, Facom, Bahco, Apex are all cheaper than snap on and make non quick release ratchets. Just depends what your price point is.

Proto pear head rank right up there with the best, if you'll accept used they can be found on ebay cheap all the time

Does anyone know of a quick release ratchet that doesn't have the "reversed" switch? Personally I hate the mechanism they use on those ratchets. I had a couple that always slipped when I was really torquing on them.

I have one of their "Spinflex" ratchets, and I'm pretty sure that it uses the same head as a Mac ratchet. The spinning handle is obnoxious though, won't stay locked. Probably going to put some epoxy in the handle and use it as a standard flex handle ratchet.

I'm sorry but it's impossible to beat the new Harbor Freight Pro Line ratchets if you want a non-quick release ratchet. I sell TOPTUL, which does have some very nice ratchets, but all of them are quick release. Most Taiwan ratchets are reversed from the traditional Snap-On direction.

Gearwrench makes a couple that are fine tooth and non-quick release but I'm not sure about the directional switch.

Yeah, I forgot about those HF pro ratchets. Not quick release, small heads, and silky smooth action. They're like buttuh. These are some EXTREMELY nice Taiwan-made ratchets incredibly cheap. Nice strong retention ball, too.

Allen is just a craftsman ratchet with USA marking.

You'd have to show the Craftsman ratchet you are talking about. The Allen ratchets are from the Armstrong A-Line of hand tools. They are cheaper but they meet or exceed spec. I think Allen tools are pretty good quality tools and Cripe sells them cheap.

Am I the only one that doesn't even know which way is which on a ratchet? I mean I always just pick it up, slap a socket on it and twist to make sure it moves in the direction I need it to. :dunno:

Farm and Fleet sells a round head but it is (not sure if the big release bugs you too)

Otherwise Carlyle has the lines of SO (ie greasy gloves that 1/2" socket isn't coming off without a fight).
Not "cheap" however, think I gave $50 for a 3 piece set (that was pictured as cman industrial or whatever US made) :(

Try grabbing some Bonney -702A series rats off of ebay, or keep an eye on the classifieds here. Very stout, fairly fine action, no QR button but nice stiff detent balls.

Can usually be had reasonable.

^ this late in the day on a weekend the cherries have all been picked through. just keep your eye on the listings and snag one when it pops up.

no shortage of good used ones out there.... just have to watch for 'em.

1/4" there's been a mess of nice Protos lately... maybe there's a glut of them out there right now - you can get a really nice one for about $20. if you want a tiny round-head consider a 1060 Challenger:
