For all of you who has in floor heat in your garage with a gas water heater how are you connecting a thermostat to it? Is it attached to the pump or right to the water heater? How did you wire it in and kind of thermostat did you use?

IIRC correctly, on my dad's system, the thermostat bascily controls the pump. The temp drops, the pump kicks on, when the tankless heater senses the cooler water moving through it then kicks on.

Yep, typical setup is usually that the "room" thermostat runs the pump and then the thermostat on the water heater (boiler, tankless heater, etc) runs the heat when it senses that the water has cooled down.
