Info needed on new snapon gear

Recently upped my toolsbox from craftsman/kobalt **** to snap-on, mac and proto "got tired of cheap ratchets breaking then needing replacement" I just nabbed the following

Snap-On FH80 3/8 comfort dual 80

Snap-On Fr72 1/4 dual 80 quick release ratchet "I wanted a quick release for 1/4 simply because I got big hands and it's a PITA for me to remove small sockets"

Snap-On Knurled Extensions sets for both 3/8 and 1/4

Mac Tools 3/8 12" "actually measures 13" breaker bar

Snap on 15" 1/2 breaker bar "snapped my craftsman model so bought a better brand "

what I wanted to know is this "since snap gave me an i dunno when I called them"


What are the max torque specs on the breaker bars and ratchets ? I mean I don't usually stand on or hammer my ratchets if I got a stuck bolt I just use the breaker bar but nothing or no-one gives specs on how many ft lbs any of this new stuff can handle

I was using maybe 75ft lbs removing a stuck idle pulley bolt on JD lawn tractor with 1/2 craftsman break bar and the little ******* "the breaker bar" snapped sending my spine first into foot boards

The new 80 tooth series from Snap-on are really strong. I believe most people break the yoke of the handle before the teeth strip. I use to break my FL936 quite often on really stuck caliper bolts. I've yet to break my FLF80, but then again I haven't had it long.

any snap on ratchet is a vast improvement over a craftsman ratchet. I do not own any craftsman ratchet as of January 27th when someone bought my last one

had the older USA craftsman stuff from my dad passed down... re-bought newer craftsman stuff when that broke and the newer stuff like ratchets and torque wrenches are all garbage... the socket extentions, sockets and stuff like that are fine but anything with gears or requiring high strength forget it. I'm not a pro mechanic but I do work on my own vehicles. Nissan Titan & Murano , Yamaha Raptor and Polaris 550XP and the lawn tractors so if the craftsman "professional" **** breaks that easy doing basic maintenance it's worthless... got Snap-on ratchets now "I like the feel and compactness of matco 1/4 ratchet AFR58T with 88 tooth but my friend says he rebuilt his twice so I got the larger headed snap-on"

my Updated tool cart "new stuff gotten within last 4 months":

2 snap-on ratchets 3/8 and 1/4
snap-on 3/8 and 1/4 extensions
snap-on 1/2 and MAC 3/8 breaker bars,
Proto Universal joints and adapters " 3/8 drive to 1/4 and etc"
every size shape model craftsman lazer engraved sockets
Kobalt wrenches I haven't had any problems with these wrenches really like em
Proto 50-250lb Torque wrench "passed down" about 5 years old
SK SAE and Metric Hex/Allen wrenches
SK SAE and Metric Hex/Allen Wrenches with T-Handles
Kobalt Ratchet Wrenches all sets "Gifted"

You'll never break the teeth in a dual 80 head... the handle gives first.

P.S checking my email box I did get a message from Snap-On the Dual 80 ratchets are rated at around 80Ft Lbs and 80Teeth ... common sense should have told me Dual 80 stood for 80teeth + 80somthing else.... lol

I'm 99% sure they're good for more than that... My 18" flex head has had no problems and I can pull easily 150 lbs. with an 18" handle that ends up being 225 ft-lbs.

Edit: it's my second one as I broke the handle ears on the first one with two guys heaving on a 4 ft pipe over the handle... The gears in the head were fine. Two guys pulling 150 lbs each on a 4ft pipe equals 1200 ft-lbs.

That's not right.. They are rated for well over 80 ft lbs.

on second thought how can the 3/8 ratchet be rated at 80ft lbs and the 1/4 ratchet is 90ft lbs rated... how the hell can a bigger tool be less strong...

yeah I know I'll prob never break it everybody I talked to swears by them claims they can hang or step down on them on a really stuck bolt and it'll still work like new

kinda weird a snap-on rep/support tech from snapon.com doesn't know wth he's selling... dunno the neighbors kid is in technical school so I got all the snap-on stuff 50% off

might end up buying my dad some of these ratchets since was always borrowin his stuff . breaking it "the craftsman ratchets" and buying him new ones or replacing them..... walk into sears hand it to them they ask no questions reach under the counter hand you a new one out of a big box for of refurbs.
