This little vise has been in the family for at least 40 years. I have only used in occasionally for the past 10 years or so, but it always serves my needs when I do ask for its help. I'm going to pull it of the old workbench, clean it up and tune it, and mount it onto a plate and piece of square tubing to make it a removable vise for my portable welding/cutting table. I like the fact that it has a little anvil for light work but it is a small vise so light work is the watchword.

Anyone that has any background on this little tool - chime in and get my eternal gratitude. :)

Here's an ad from 1943. The C-44 is at the bottom left.

I've been looking, or trying to look, for info on this vise, but can't really find anything. Plus I'm not really all that knowledgeable when it comes to vises. Here's all I could, it's another discussion on columbian vises here on the boards, and a link to where there are some of these for sale. Like I said, might not be what you're looking for, but it might help on your search for info:

Thanks for the ad, it's tucked away for safe keeping - three years older then me, it is. Wish mine had the pipe jaws on it, that would really be handy on my welding/cutting table. Oh well. Thanks also for the thread reference - not specific to my question, but interesting:bowdown:.
