I just picked this up on craigslist (free)

It was originally made by Atlas and badged for Craftsman/Sears. Has original 3/4 HP motor

It works pretty well as it sits but it needs some love.

There is a slight bit of slop in all direction on bearing for the blade. I am hoping a bit of grease will help.

THere is a cup with a brass cap under the bearing, it's filled with dried grease. I have no idea how to force new grease into it. I'm thinking I could drill into the cap and ad a zerk.

But i would love to know how this was supposed to work.

Assuming that fresh grease does not completely solve the problem I would be grateful for some direction on how to eventually replace the bearing.

Pics would help, but I suspect the grease cup is like the ones on Atlas lathes. As you twist the cover it pushes in some grease.

that makes sense, the cap is deep and threads down about a half inch. But a zerk might be better.

Your pictures didn't work for me.
You might want to check over at OWWM.org too if you haven't already. We have at least one resident expert on those saws there. Also take a look at vintagemachinery.org for documents. If you have slop in your bearings you would be better off to just replace them now. Chances are they're a standard size and inexpensive.
Congrats on getting a really nice saw for free.
