Got a few questions about the infrared ceramic heaters like the Sunstar SG series.
1. Do they stink since they aren't vented?
2. Do they make everything drip with moisture like the old Dearborn heaters of yesteryear?
3. Because our place is at 8500' elevation propane appliances are derated. Probably about 25-30% at that elevation BUT according to Sunstar their heaters should be reduced in size by 32% due to their efficiency over a forced air heater. So this sounds like a wash. If I think I need 64k BTU then just get two 32k units.
4. Thoughts on these units having to have outside air? Looks like purposely letting cold air in would reduce the efficiency.
Looking to maybe put one or two in my Colorado shop. Heated area will be about 1200 sq ft with 12' ceilings in half of it and 14' in the other half. Probably R19 in the walls and R30-38 in the ceiling.
Thinking about two 32000 BTU heaters along the wall. Shop is 40' long so about 13' of space, then heater, then 13' then heater, then 13'.
Because it's a slab floor in cold Colorado my assumption is the infrared will heat up the slab.
With each one on it's own thermostat I could heat the area of the shop I was working in..
I have no experience with these types of heaters but I do have two Hot Dawg heaters here at the home place in Texas. they work good but the slabs are always cold and uncomfortable.
Any thoughts or comparison between forced air and infrared if you have had both?
