Ingersol Compressor what are these for?

Ingersol Compressor

Hi I found a 7.5 hp Ingersol Rand 80 gal compressor I'm going to buy. Its part number 2475 N75 What are these transformers for ?

they're buck-boost transformers, probably used to step a 120/240 single phase service down to a 208 single phase. would be my best guess without knowing the details on the compressor.

Someone (prior owner) had low line voltage. These transformers were used to increase the voltage to the level the motor requires. I'm guessing it is single phase, right?

$700? I guess this is a 'you ****' moment... fantastic buy... Looks really good.

Those transformers do not go with the compressor. They're a 10:1 winding so they put out 1/10th of the input, ie 12v out @ 120v in, or 24v out @ 240v in. nehog/Gooch are waaaay off

Decent output rating, so they were probably used for low voltage lighting or hacked for a (poor) automotive/RV supply.

Compressor looks like a great find for $700!

Sorry; you're correct. They're autotransformers not transformers, so the nameplate isn't what they're actually doing.

I just got the compressor temporarly hooked up to check it out. Here's a short video with a Fluke meter hooked to it.

One needs to understand what and how a buck/boost transformer is used, prior to saying someone is 'waaaay off'.
