I just purchased a TS4N5 Compressor without the 5hp motor. Apparently it burned up as I've read so many do and the previous owner never replaced it..... Has anyone upgraded and installed a 7.5hp with the same 184T frame? If yes what shaft length do I need? Looking around I see varying lengths like 2-7/8 to 3 something. Would you go with a 1750 rom motor and then change the pully diameter to maintain the 1375 rmp pump speed?

Just looked up the specs on that compressor, 7.5hp is very overkill for a compressor of that size. Most of these consumer grade compressors are using common parts among all brands. Id guess the motor burned up from being bad quality, not from being truly over worked.

I don't think I'd go with a 1750rpm motor. I'm going to wild guess that my 5hp compressor has a 5" OD driving something like an 16" OD.

To keep your pump speed the same you'd have to goto a ~10" sheave which is probably not going to be cheap.

I want to say you have to jump up to #8 wire if you have a 7.5hp motor...the guys in Electrical will have all of the code details for you.

I think if you could source a better quality 3450rpm 5hp foot-mount motor (check Frame Size for equivalence) then youd be back in the game.

Do you have a clamp meter? once you get it up and running you can check the amp load at full PSI to get an idea of how hard the motor is being worked. As long as its below the name plate amp draw you are good to go, if its above you may need to change pulley ratios to get the load down on the motor.
