Ingersol vs Quincy

I need to replace my small portable air compresser, and have narrowed the field to a vertical Garage Mate and the Quincy 20346. Anybody have some input on this?

SKang, that is a nice compresser but at a 60 gallon tank not quite portable enough.

Here is a couple of links to compare the two. I had a Garage Mate that was stolen, it served its purpose well and the Quincy looks like a good unit but I have not seen one up close.

I just took delivery of my new Quincy. Every review I read on all the big brands said go with quincy-it'll be the last compressor you'll ever buy.

I can't give you any feedback as I only fired it up once to test it but I will say that it is the quietest 220v compressor I've ever heard! And it has a hell of a warranty-4 year at home repair!

The warrenty appears to be the same 12 months parts and labor. The significant difference I see is 200 lbs shipping weight for Iggy and 165 lbs for Quincy. My gut tells me that extra 35 lbs is good. My old Iggy was built different with side by side cylinders as the new one is v twin. I cant tell if the Quincy is V or ? I called the nearest NT store and they only had the Ingersol in stock.

The warranty is a "buy on". I got it through northern tool, but Quincy services the compressor if it is needed. All you have to do is buy their oil and air filters.

I'm considering these two as well. I'm just trying to figure if the extra $ is worth the Quincy.

The IR is continuous duty. Is the Quincy?

Has anyone compared the sound levels between the two. I'm not looking for a whisper quiet compressor, but more quieter is nicer.

If they are low RPM motors it will be pretty quite.

I also remember lower end model IR compressors are not worth paying for.

I got a look at the Quincy compressor today at a local Bomgars store. The unit is well made tell I took a good look at the compresser head itself very small not to impressed,I think I know where the extra weight is on the ingersol. Not to sure I want another one of them either. I may look into piecing something together, from new parts.

If you can afford $2000 go for the Quincy QT-5. It's one of the best, if not the best.

I agree, that would be on my list if I wernt looking for a Portable unit that compressor has a 80 gallon tank and no wheels. I need a portable unit and trying to avoid buying junk. Quincy Q12126VP portable that I was looking at would have been fine if they hadnt skimped so much on compressor head.

The difference in weight I believe comes partly from the Quincy's aluminum heads with steel inserts. I was considering the same Quincy myself...

That surprises me too! I have a couple of the IR compressors, one very big. I have wanted a Quincy for years thinking they are far better than the newer IR's.

IR's have went cheap in the last 10 years, but even though the Quincy's have done some of the same, I still think overall the Quincy is better quality.

Yes, they really skimped on the compressor head. This same store had some larger Quincy's and they were fine looking units.
