I'm rebuilding a used IR 231 ha2 I got recently. Since it's rather worn, I want to completely rebuild it. I'm having trouble removing the motor to replace the rear bearing. The rear plate that houses this bearing won't come out. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it out?

Thank you. Looks like it must be just rust/corrosion holding the rear plate in. Don't see any fasteners. Now to get it apart without damaging something...

The rotor with rear plate affixed to it and the cylinder will come straight out of the housing. It's a close tolerance machined fit and may stick if you get it tilted or crooked removing it. Sometimes when I'm where you're at taking them apart I smack the front of the housing half with a rubber or rawhide mallet at even points to jar the parts forward and out.

Thank you, red. That was exactly my problem. The parts are machined to such tight tolerances that it gets cocked incredibly easily.

I notice, in general, there isn't very much info online talking about rebuilding air tools. Next time you guys do this, how about a little write-up?

Best of luck!
