Hi -

I have a 3-week old IR P151UA9 20-gallon air compressor that stopped filling last night; the copper tubing running from the tank to the pressure switch pulled out of the "nut" (I believe this is called a compression fitting).

I pulled the nut off, slipped it back on and tightened it up but the tubing pulled out easily.

Do I need to get a new fitting or cut the end of the tubing, any thoughts? I don't have any experience with copper tubing and fittings (obviously).

Thanks in advance.

The copper line was there a brass ring on it ? It should or would be inside the nut when tightening. It crimps itself to the line when tight and won’t slide back off. It’ll get crimped in place. That ring is also what seals the connection. Allot of people calls it a wedding band because that’s what it kinda looks like. If it’s missing it won’t hold no matter how tight you tighten the nut

It looks like this but for the size line you have. Nut goes on the line first then the brass ring. Then insert the line into the fitting and slide the ring and nut up to the fitting and tighten it up. Just don’t over tighten it because you can crack the nut fairly easily
