well i finally got burned on a tool purchase. seen a really nice green 2235 on marketplace for 75$. really good shape, not beat up at all, none of the usual high wear signs, looked new except for just being dirty. i tested it before i bought it, first red flag, no air fitting installed. but i had brought one, tested it, second red flag was the hammers were extremely noisy and didn’t feel quite right. the air motor was strong and no leaks, and it seemed to be impacting. so I offered 50$, and third red flag, he didn’t even hesitate. well long story short, took it apart and found the hammer cage was cracked on one end, and oddly the hammers were installed wrong, both facing the same way. either somebody been in it, or a manufacturing oops? the grease was really black and burnt. i have not been in many newer ir impacts, but the look and feel of the cage hammers and anvil was disappointing, felt cheap. i greased it up, reassembled it to try it, and the power was off. took it back apart and the cage had broken completely. parts don’t seem to be plentiful or cheap/reasonable. a new used hammer cage on ebay is 75$. the hammers definitely have wear and probably the anvil needs replaced too. parts are going to be 3 times what i paid for it. so now i’m not sure what to do? put it on a shelf as a lesson learned? watch ebay for cheaper good parts? then the question of how an impact with what appears to be low use, has the impact mechanism so trashed? possibly a 21 date code, but cant verify. has the quality slipped like everything else? i’ve bought several impacts that looked way worse and never seen hammers and cage with this much damage . thoughts?

Put this one on the shelf and get a new one. Accumulate parts slowly then rebuild it and keep as a spare.

well, not for what i wanted to pay, but found some new used parts on ebay, so hopefully she will live again. just couldn’t stand not fixing it. even if its not a 100%, it should be plenty for what i need. this sure is going to make me more careful when buying used tools.

I buy used hardline tools. I do not buy used air tools or power tools.
