More than capable for both of those tasks. one thing to note is die grinders use ALOT of air so make sure you have a decent sized compressor to keep up with it.

Sure, it can do that but it's gonna dramatically reduce the lifespan of the tool. Angle die grinders are definitely not meant for use with cut off wheels. You use that style for surface clean up mostly. Most people use roloc discs with that style. Because of the 90° bend, the gear in the head will strip out sooner if used improperly. If you're looking for a tool specifically for what you mentioned, you'll want a 3" air cut off tool. If you want something that's a little more multipurpose but still want to be able to cut, get a straight die grinder. You can use a cut off mandrel in a straight die grinder (however this is NOT osha approved as the disc wouldnt have a guard). It can be very dangerous if a wheel blows up on you.

I have the 3102 version, just a bit more powerful.
I only use in tight area for cutting. It works but puts too much stress on the tool. The angle head locking nut is stripped and the gear makes more noise now.

If you work in more open area, just use 4.5" angle grinder.
