Ingersoll Rand compressor motor replacement

Purchase a IR compressor from Tractor Supply (model TS4N5, 2 stage, 230V, 5HP, 80 Gal) about 3 years ago. Fairly heavy use up until today when the motor no longer starts. Checked both capacitors, one was bad, replaced it and still no run. 230 volts getting up to motor. Question: has anyone replaced the motor on one of these, and if so, where did you buy it? I see Grainger has what appears to be a comparable replacement for about $270. Has anyone been down this road? Thanks in advance.

Electric motors are really simple devices and before I'd drop $100's on a replacement I'd try to find out what's wrong with your motor. In my experience it's usually something simple and not burnt out windings.

- Check both capacitors and the centrifical switch that engages them
- Ohm out the run and start windings. (any burnt smell or discolored parts of the windings?)
- Are all the electrical connections good.
- Does the motor run if you give it a spin start with a rope?
- Does it spin freely if you give it a hand spin.
- Is the thermal protection circuit good? Has it been reset?
- Bearing issues??

P/S: Do your running diagnosis with the motor removed from the pump/load. Just like the other thread, there can be many problems with the motor trying to start a pump with residual back pressure.

Does this compressor have a magnetic starter? If not, is the pressure switch bad? 5hp is a lot for the contacts in a pressure switch

I see this dates some time back & most bad complaints I read online are older too.
My freind saw this same compressor on sale & is considering it for his farm. We see it still carries the same model TS4N5 but anyone know if its ever changed/updated since this thread began? Hopeful thinking 🤔

Q) Wondering if any members purchased this compressor more recently & if so'has anyone suffered any problems with it?

Also' we read some neg posts over IR warranty issues?
Q) Anyone have a bad experience with Ingersoll Rand refusing/ignoring your warranty?

Merry Christmas everyone,
Thanks!

Move one is to take it to a motor repair shop for testing. I've got one a mile from my house on Bell Road. If the motor is good the pressure switch, as previously mentioned, could be the culprit.

I have had mine for at least 10 years, the one Cap it appeared to leak after about a year, They sent me a new one but I just cleaned up the old and it is still going, I change the oil every 2 years and it works great. I think I would look at the switch first.

Good to know yours is still rollin strong Joe.
I think he's holding out till holidays pass, he expected better from IR & Dewalt too.
So many recent negative reviews can't say I blame him.
Thanks
